Chanderpaul came to the wicket when Lancashire were 35 for 2 in the 18th overhaving lost Tom Smith to a catch at the wicket and Paul Horton to another atsecond slip off David Balcombe.Chanderpaul received precious little support as the ball darted around in thefirst session and then again after lunch. Chanderpaul was involved in two substantial stands in an otherwisebowler-dominated day.Steven Croft helped him add 78 for the fourth wicket and Luke Sutton addedanother 77 for the sixth but without short-term signing Chanderpaul Lancashirewould have paid a heavy price for the decision to bat first.Mark Chilton was the third batsman to go with the score on 41 giving EnglandUnder-19 wicketkeeper Michael Bates a second catch on his debut. Lancashire lunched at 65 for 3 and Croft helped Chanderpaul take the score to 119 before he chopped the ball onto his stumps when facing left-arm spinner Danny Briggs. Chapple fell at 246 to give former Lancashire bowler Dominic Cork his first wicket of the innings and just before the close Chanderpaul’s resistance wasfinally broken. Again it was the durable Cork, 39 next week, who made the breakthrough havingChanderpaul caught at the wicket after more than 70 overs of defiance.Chanderpaul faced 217 balls and hit 16 fours to help Lancashire recover to aposition of parity. Sajid Mahmood got off the mark with a six off James Tomlinson and was nine notout at the close.Cork finished with 2 for 48, Balcombe took 2 for 63 and the promisingBriggs was credited with figures of 2 for 54 from 18 accurate overs.

Spurs could sign Dembele on loan

As per The Sun, La Liga giants Barcelona have now given the green-light for Tottenham target Ousmane Dembele to leave on loan until the end of this season.

The Lowdown: Spurs eye move…

The Lilywhites and manager Antonio Conte have been heavily linked with a possible move for the Catalans forward with Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) even lifting the lid on an offer from Spurs chief Fabio Paratici.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

In another update, the same outlet claimed that Spurs were set to push for his signing in January, with Paratici apparently eyeing ‘quality players zero cost’ for the north London club.

Barcelona director Mateu Alemany recently confirmed that Dembele has no future at Barca after new contract talks stalled, claiming that the player has been told to ‘leave immediately’ as the club ‘expect’ him to move before deadline day (The Sun).

In a possible boost for Spurs, The Sun have now shared what Barca are willing to do to make that happen.

The Latest: Barca green-light loan…

According to their sources, the Spanish side ‘will let him go in a £3m loan deal’ until the end of 2021/2022 when his current deal expires.

However, Spurs may face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle – who The Sun claim are interested parties in the race to sign Dembele this month.

The Verdict: Time to pounce?

It looks more than likely that the 24-year-old, signed for a huge £97 million in 2017, may well be on his way out of the Catalan club – but should Tottenham take advantage and sign him on a temporary deal?

The France international’s history of hamstring problems combined with a lucrative £210,000-per-week wage packet point to a risky bit of business from Spurs’ perspective, but on loan, these factors are mitigated somewhat given they won’t be investing in a permanent transfer.

While pundit Carlton Palmer thinks he would be a ‘crazy signing’ due to the reasons mentioned above, Dembele’s quality could also be of use to Conte over an initial end-of-season period.

Called ‘better’ than Paris-Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe by Barca president Joan Laporta, he is very highly rated within some sectors and perhaps he could find another home under Conte at Spurs – even for a short time.

Rangers fans want Alegria to play Celtic

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left pleading for Juan Alegria to be given a chance in the first team ahead of their Old Firm clash on Wednesday night.

The Colombian striker opened the scoring in the Academy’s game against Civil Service Strollers in the Scottish Lowland League on Saturday afternoon with a ‘stunning finish’, leaving members of the Ibrox faithful flocking to the post and calling for him to get an immediate first-team call-up.

He has already shown his credentials numerous times already this season, including scoring a hat-trick back in October for Rangers B.

After supporters were particularly critical of Cedric Itten’s performance in the senior team’s 3-3 draw away at Ross County, the 19-year-old could perhaps now be given a chance to impress Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the biggest match of their campaign so far.

BCCI denies receiving complaints from players

The BCCI has denied reports it has been sent a letter by members of the Indian team complaining about fatigue caused by their hectic international schedule

Cricinfo staff16-Aug-2010The BCCI has denied reports it has been sent a letter by members of the Indian team complaining about fatigue caused by their hectic international schedule. Rajiv Shukla, the board’s media and finance committee chairman, said the BCCI was not forcing cricketers to play and that if they wanted rest they should inform the selection panel.”If any player is feeling tired or fatigued, or if he feels that he would not be able perform due to some illness, then he must inform the selector,” Shukla said. “The BCCI’s policy is very clear. We will give the player rest. We are not forcing any player to participate in the series.”Shukla was responding to media reports that the Indian players had sent a letter to the board expressing unhappiness about their schedule. “We have not received any letter from any player saying that players are unhappy. There is no truth in it,” Shukla said. “The international calendar is like that. But still we are working it out.”Though reports of the letter were unsubstantiated, MS Dhoni had spoken on Sunday about the workload on the Indian bowlers. “The workload on the bowler can be too much if you see, specially those playing Test matches and ODIs. The workload on them is a bit too much because they are suppose to bowl close to 17 to 25 overs a day. And that really challenges the limit. For batsmen it is still [easier], you don’t have to put in the same amount of effort compared to a bowler.”

Leeds transfer plans emerge ahead of 11pm

Leeds United have plans in place ahead of the January transfer window at 11pm…

What’s the word?

That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton, who dropped a quite exciting claim to Sky Sports News earlier this morning.

Crysencio Summerville is subject to interest from abroad, with 2.Bundesliga outfit Hamburg SV said to be keen on signing him on loan, so if Marcelo Bielsa does sanction his exit, then the club will look to bring someone in to replace him.

“There is interest in him. Summerville wants to go out and play. Leeds have already got alternatives lined up. [Takumi] Minamino at Liverpool they have been looking at. But as things stand, he’s not going anywhere. Of course, this is transfer deadline day and that could change.”

Late encouragement?

This should provide some excitement to those around Elland Road as it shows that Victor Orta and co are prepared to bolster the playing squad, should a spot become available.

Of course, the Argentine needs a couple of reinforcements in order to boost their chances of avoiding a relegation scrap as he has been dealing with quite the injury crisis at Thorp Arch.

Minamino is certainly an intriguing option to sign as he has impressed during his time at Liverpool, despite a lack of game time. It’s always going to be hard for him when the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah are ahead of him in the pecking order.

The versatile Japanese winger, who was dubbed “very special” by Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl last season following his loan move to the south coast, has delivered six goals and one assist in 18 appearances, via Transfermarkt.

That includes two Premier League goals in 86 minutes, which is quite remarkable. Just imagine what he could do at Elland Road when given a proper opportunity for game time.

Elsewhere, Chelsea winger Kenedy is another potential option, according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.

Both players would surely be easy to get over the line, given they are both at current Premier League teams, so there should be plenty of encouragement if you’re a United supporter, heading into the final few hours of the window.

Marillier century halts Rhinos' push for victory

Opener Steve Marillier’s marathon, unbeaten century halted Mid West Rhinos’ charge towards an innings victory and helped Southern Rocks draw their second game of the Logan Cup in Masvingo.Following on after conceding a 322-run first-innings lead, Rocks were left with the task of batting out four sessions to save the game. But for Marillier’s effort, they would have struggled to do so. After his partner Sikandar Raza was dismissed with the score on zero, Marillier – playing only his eighth first-class game – faced 380 deliveries and remained not out on 148, his maiden century. The next highest score was Craig Ervine’s 46. The match was called off with Rocks on 282 for 5 after 119 overs. The Rhinos’ commanding position in the game was built by first-innings hundreds from Brendan Taylor, their captain Vusi Sibanda and Malcolm Waller. They piled up 609 for 7 after getting sent in by Rocks. An opening stand of 180 between Taylor and Friday Kasteni, who made 61, set the tone for the middle order to build the huge total. In reply, half-centuries from Tatenda Taibu and Raza could not help Rocks avoid the follow-on. Legspinner Graeme Cremer picked up his 12th five-wicket haul in 61 first-class games to dismiss Rocks for 287. Sibanda immediately enforced the follow-on, but Marillier’s effort meant Rhinos had to be content with earning only one point for the first-innings lead from the game.

Kerala Cricket Association to hold talks with Kochi franchise

The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) will hold talks with the owners of the Kochi franchise on October 7 to settle outstanding problems that could prevent it from playing a part in the next IPL

ESPNcricinfo staff02-Oct-2010The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) will hold talks with the owners of the Kochi franchise on October 7 to settle outstanding problems that could prevent it from playing a part in the next IPL. The BCCI, at its annual general meeting on September 29, issued an ultimatum to the franchise owners, asking to register themselves as a company or risk being scrapped. The franchise, BCCI president Shashank Manohar said, had split into two factions, making it difficult for the board to negotiate with one legal entity.”All the team owners have been invited for the talks and they have promised to come,” KCA President TR Balakrishnan told . “The owners have not registered the company under the Companies Act so far and there are certain internal issues between the different owners. So KCA has initiated steps to bring them together for the talks.”The BCCI is expected to formally issue the show-cause notices to Kochi soon and IPL chief executive Sundar Raman said that the franchises would have between ten days and two weeks to reply.Rendezvous Sports World, a consortium of five companies, bid US$333.33m to successfully purchase the tenth franchise in an expanded fourth edition of the IPL. However, it almost immediately ran into a controversy when Lalit Modi, the then IPL chairman, revealed the franchise’s ownership details on his Twitter feed. The revelation triggered a chain of events that led to his own ouster from the BCCI.”The bid was given by individuals who came together and formed a consortium. Now there is no legal entity as such that is incorporated,” Manohar said on Wednesday. “So we asked them to incorporate a company, a joint venture company and then come to the BCCI. They have a recent dispute between the five persons who are there in the consortium with regards to the shares, sweat equity and other things. Both the groups have sent letters to the board saying. ‘Don’t recognise the other group, recognise only me.’ The board cannot work with such a franchise.”When asked if Kochi would be excluded from the tournament if it didn’t meet the BCCI’s ultimatum, Manohar had said: “We might play with nine teams or eight teams, we don’t know.”Two other franchises, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, have been issued show-cause notices “for various irregularities committed by them during the period of their contract”.

Doherty has not been a regular first-class player for the Tigers in recent years and his national call-up came in the 50-over format, but he proved he has plenty to offer in the longer version as well with his best bowling since 2004-05.Doherty finished with 5 for 83 and was largely responsible for giving Tasmania a strong chance of collecting first-innings points as Victoria ended the day at 8 for 261. Rob Quiney was on 51 and Darren Pattinson was on 23, but the Bushrangers need some serious tail-wagging in order to overhaul Tasmania’s 326.Doherty collected both openers, the left-handers Michael Hill and Chris Rogers caught at short leg, and followed with three more victims. Luke Butterworth was the only other Tasmanian bowler to claim a wicket, while Ben Hilfenhaus enjoyed a lengthy if unsuccessful stint ahead of the first Ashes Test.Quiney, who batted at No. 7, reached his half-century late in the day after Aaron Finch (41) had been the leading scorer among the top order. The Tigers began the morning with one wicket in hand and the final pair added a further 11 before Peter Siddle grabbed his second wicket to complete the innings.

Rangers handed Old Firm injury boost

Glasgow Rangers are back in action tomorrow with another Old Firm clash on the cards for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox outfit.

This time, the Glasgow rivals will be battling it out for a place in the Scottish Cup final.

The Gers head into the showdown riding a wave of confidence after securing their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League thanks to a 3-1 midweek win against Braga in front of a rocking Ibrox.

In addition to this, it seems as though the Dutchman’s side have been handed a huge injury boost that will surely be a massive weight off the shoulders of everyone involved with the Light Blues.

What’s the news?

Speaking after the win on Thursday (via The Herald), Gers left-back Borna Barisic revealed that it was cramp that led to him leaving the pitch just before the end of regular time, rather than any serious injury.

Assuming that this cramp is no longer an issue for the player, having him available to feature against Celtic will be great news for Van Bronckhorst.

With 19 league appearances to his name in this campaign, the 29-year-old has managed to deliver three assists for his side.

Also, only James Tavernier (3.2) and Alfredo Morelos (2) have racked up a higher average of key passes per game than the Croatian – who makes 1.9 per 90.

From a defensive point of view, the full-back has also made 27 tackles in the league this season, leaving only Tavernier (41) and Joe Aribo (32) with more.

These metrics highlight how important Barisic is for his side in both an attacking and defensive regard, as well as how much of a nuisance he could be for Celtic to play against tomorrow.

In terms of his overall performances, the left-back is currently listed as the joint-fourth highest rated player at the Ibrox club with a WhoScored rating of 7.24.

With the Hoops having scored more and conceded fewer goals than any other side in the SPFL, having Barisic on the pitch will certainly give Rangers’ chances of beating their rivals a huge boost – a result that would delight everyone involved with the Light Blues.

Tottenham: Source makes big Di Maria claim

Tottenham Hotspur have moved for Paris-Saint Germain forward Angel Di Maria as an opportunity opens up, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Paratici eyeing free deals…

The Daily Mail, recently lifting the lid on Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici’s transfer plans, claimed that the Italian is eyeing players on ‘dwindling contracts’ for manager Antonio Conte.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

As the Italian sets his sights on the 2022 free agent market, there is no shortage of potential options for Bosman summer signings, with West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone and Juventus star Paulo Dybala among the players attracting interest.

Conte allegedly wants as many as six fresh faces through the door at N17, as per The Telegraph, so post-contract moves may well be a fruitful source of talent for Tottenham in the upcoming window.

The Latest: Tottenham ‘movement’ recorded for Di Maria…

Calciomercato.it, sharing news on Paratici’s plan, now claim that there has been ‘some movement’ recorded from Tottenham’s side as they eye a move for PSG’s Di Maria.

The Argentine’s deal in Paris is set to expire in June as things stand with this report stating his contract situation ‘becomes an opportunity for everyone’ – including Spurs.

The Verdict: Right man?

Di Maria, who has racked up an impressive career total of 152 goals from out wide, isn’t exactly short of quality – but is he right for Conte’s side?

His regrettable stint at Manchester United highlighted an arguable attitude problem, at least according to their ex-boss Louis Van Gaal, who claimed back in 2016 that he had ‘no self-criticism’ – shifting blame on to management rather than looking inward.

However, former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino did label Di Maria a ‘genius’ just last year, with the 50-year-old clearly being a fan.

According to WhoScored, the 34-year-old has also averaged more key passes per 90 (2.1) over his PSG appearances than any of Conte’s men have managed in the Premier League.

As well as this, only Son Heung-min (2.4) and Harry Kane (3.3) better Di Maria in terms of attempts at goal (1.9) – backing his obvious attacking threat.

On a free deal, he could be a credible candidate, at least for the short term – but it remains to be seen whether Spurs would be willing to match or better his reported £138,000-per-week wages.
