Chelsea chiefs view £99m Premier League star as "key" potential signing

Chelsea hold a Premier League star in very high regard, and it is believed they’re prepared to battle for his services, as those within Stamford Bridge believe he could be an imperative addition to the squad.

Chelsea prioritise centre-back with Wesley Fofana out for a long period

Enzo Maresca confirmed the news that Chelsea supporters really didn’t want to hear, with mainstay centre-back Wesley Fofana facing a lengthy absence for the second time in his career at the club.

The French giants are not messing around…

The Frenchman has partnered Levi Colwill to brilliant effect so far this season, but Maresca will now have to cope without him for a very long time, which could even be for the rest of this season, despite Chelsea’s boss originally predicting he’d miss just “three, four, or five weeks”.

“Unfortunately, he could be out for the season, so we don’t know exactly for the entire season, but unfortunately he could be out for part of the season,” said Maresca on Fofana’s injury at Chelsea.

“And we are together here since we start, and every time you ask me about Wes, I said many times that I’m in love with Wes.

“I was in love with Wes, also because Wes is that kind of defender that gives you the chance to press and be aggressive and to leave him 1v1 with Watkins on pitch.

“We did exactly the same when Wes was injured with Benoit Badiashile, 1v1 with Solanke on pitch, and they can deal with that, and it’s very difficult to find that kind of defender, but now unfortunately both are injured. We are trying to find different solutions, but for sure for us Wes is a huge loss.”

Chelsea are believed to be prioritising a centre-back in January, even before Fofana’s injury, but there are also some suggestions that they have their eyes on reinforcing their forward options.

Ipswich Town star Liam Delap is a target for Chelsea, and they’ve had some contact with his club in the build up to this window (Simon Phillips).

Chelsea view Newcastle star Isak as "key" potential signing

According to reports out of Spain, Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is on their striker shortlist too. It is believed Chelsea view Isak as a potential “key” signing for Maresca, and they’re “ready to compete” with Atlético Madrid and Arsenal for his signature.

The Magpies will demand a price tag of around £99 million, or perhaps even more going by other reports, which is hardly surprising given Isak is arguably the division’s best centre-forward right now.

“Alex is a world-class talent,” said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe recently.

“The way he took his goals, he has that coolness and composure very few have. When you add into the mix his technical skills, I think he’s got it all. He has unique skills, and the challenge is to get him into the game as much as we can. Earlier in the season we weren’t doing that, but now the team are performing much better.

“He’s a player with a real confidence and we’re seeing a return to his really best levels – that’s highlighted by the goals he has scored.”

'It's quarter of a billion pounds worth of talent' – Gary Neville stunned by Liverpool's contract mismanagement as Arne Slot faces losing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk for nothing this summer

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has revealed his shock at Liverpool's handling of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk's deals.

Neville has been left stunned by Liverpool’s contract mismanagement, with three key players currently set to leave on free transfers at the end of the season. The Manchester United legend believes that his former club would have tied the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah down to new contracts. Instead, the trio could leave Anfield for nothing.

Liverpool’s owners, FSG, have come under increasing pressure in recent months, with questions being asked of their contract strategy given the importance of all three players. Alexander-Arnold is close to agreeing a deal to join Real Madrid, while Salah has interest from Saudi Arabia and Van Dijk has been linked with the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich.

WHAT GARY NEVILLE SAID

Neville, who was speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, said: "At the end of the season, it will leave Liverpool a huge hole if those three players [Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold] leave on a free. They won’t have the money to replace them, and you could argue there is a quarter of a billion pounds in those three. You’re talking about one of the best strikers in Europe, one of the best centre-halves in Europe and one of the best right-backs in Europe.

"Even as good as Liverpool have been in recruitment, that is a quarter-billion-pound hole. They’ve been good at recruitment so they could replace them, but that is a hell of a thing for Arne Slot to have to deal with.

“Liverpool are the only club that are allowed to run a player’s contract down to zero but are still doing okay. But he’s [Jamie Carragher] explained it, so we’re alright. Three of the best players in the world have got contracts running down, but Liverpool have done a great job of managing that – I’m sorry, I can’t accept that."

AFPWHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Liverpool must now begin planning for life without Alexander-Arnold, and potentially Van Dijk and Salah. The Reds have been linked with a number of high-profile replacements, including Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso and Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong. However, it remains to be seen whether FSG will invest heavily this summer having failed to splash the cash during Arne Slot's first two transfer windows.

'The ball was there to hit and I just hit it to the wrong place' – Jamie Overton rues the ton that got away

But fast bowler believes England fightback leaves team in ‘box seat’

Vithushan Ehantharajah25-Jun-2022After falling agonisingly short of a Test century on debut, then returning with a fiery spell in the final session, Jamie Overton was refreshingly philosophical at the end of day three of the third Test at Headingley. Both efforts contributed to England’s cause, ensuring a first innings of 360 for a lead of 31, before cutting New Zealand down to 168 for five late on. The tourists led by 137 at stumps, with in-form batters Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell at the crease. After an initial spell of five overs for 17, Overton came out after tea and immediately took the wicket of Tom Latham, who had looked back in form in reaching 76 before succumbing to a misjudgement outside off stump from round the wicket. Overton then hit Devon Conway in the head with the very next ball, setting the tone for what was a engaging four-wicket session for England. However the pain earlier of falling for 97 earlier in the day was the main point of conversation when it came to Overton’s work on Saturday. He was crestfallen after nervously waving at a wide delivery from Trent Boult which nestled into the hands of Mitchell at first slip. By stumps, however, he had just about made his peace with the three runs he did not get.”Obviously I was very disappointed getting out on 97,” he said. “But me and Jonny put us in a great position [a partnership of 241 – a new record for the seventh wicket]. And that knock from Broady (42) coming in and getting us into a lead has put us in a great place going into the second innings. It was obviously disappointing but I feel I’ve contributed to the team more than enough.”Understandably, Overton did not get the best night’s sleep on Friday, having come in on 89 not out, and that reflected in a quiet start the following morning, in which he only managed eight runs in the 40 minutes before his dismissal.”I was tossing and turning for quite a lot,” he admitted. “I’m always going to be a little bit nervous but I felt like I was in sort of in a great place this morning and just didn’t quite get over the line. The ball was there to hit and I just hit it to the wrong place.”Related

Bairstow, who was eventually dismissed for 162, accompanied Overton for a portion of his slow walk-off, putting his arm around him and offering some consoling words: “He just said, soak it all up, you played a great knock.”Overton was good by those words come the evening. England’s middle session lacked a little something, allowing New Zealand to move into a strong position of 125 for one at tea, and a lead of 94. With the help of the crowd, they responded with far more urgency and endeavour to take four for 43 in the 18.5 overs they were able to get in before the rain.”We chatted at tea that potentially the afternoon session wasn’t that great for us,” Overton said. “We obviously didn’t go for loads of runs but we didn’t feel like we bowled and fielded the way we wanted to, so coming out after tea it was just trying to enjoy ourselves, put the New Zealand guys under pressure, and that’s what we did. The crowd obviously got involved a little bit and we tried to gee them up because that always helps us as well.”There is still work to be done, especially given how Mitchell and Blundell have performed – in this match alone, never mind the series, with 109 and 55 in the first innings, respectively. Overton, though, feels England are ahead.”I think that last session put us right in the box seat. We would like to go back out there at the end but couldn’t quite get out there with the with the covers needing time to get them off.”But yeah, we’re in a great position going into tomorrow and hopefully we can get the two early wickets, the two key wickets. But we feel like we’re in a good place. And if we can get those two early, then we’re in a great place to win the game.”

West Brom make enquiry for "absolutely clinical" gem alongside Isaiah Jones

West Bromwich Albion have now made an enquiry over an “absolutely clinical” striker who is the son of a Baggies legend, according to a report.

Baggies still pushing for promotion

Losing Carlos Corberan to Valencia mid-season undoubtedly put a dent in West Brom’s chances of gaining promotion from the Championship, but they still remain in a strong position to return to the Premier League.

Albion are still in the play-offs under the helm of a caretaker trio of Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, but they will be hoping to hire a new permanent manager as soon as possible to aid their chances of finishing inside the top six.

The likes of Swansea City’s Luke Williams and former Union Berlin boss Urs Fischer are in the running to take over at The Hawthorns, but there is unlikely to be an appointment prior to this weekend’s trip to AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

West Bromwich Albion could now appoint this manager to replace Carlos Corberan.

Although the Baggies are still without a permanent manager, they are still looking at how they can strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, with a bid accpeted for Isaiah Jones, and The Daily Mail report they have now made contact over a potential deal for a striker.

West Brom have now made an enquiry about the availability of Liverpool striker Lewis Koumas, who is currently on loan at fellow Championship side Stoke City. Koumas will be a familiar name to the Albion faithful, with enigmatic midfielder Jason Koumas, Lewis’ father, spending an impressive five years at The Hawthorns from 2002 to 2007.

Jason Koumas was a fantastic servant to the Baggies, and his 19-year-old son is also showing signs he could go on to be a top player, having been lauded as an “absolutely clinical” striker by Wales U21 manager Matty Jones.

The Wales international has predominantly featured on the wing for Stoke this season, displaying his versatility, and he has emerged as a key player, bagging three goals in 25 Championship appearances.

Koumas’ move to Stoke is likely to have been a good learning curve for the youngster, and he could now be ready to take the next step by moving to a team in the upper echelons of the Championship table.

Emma Lamb, Kate Cross give Thunder first 50-over win of season

England players contribute with bat and ball under Manchester lights

ECB Reporters Network23-Jul-2022The first day/night women’s List A match at Emirates Old Trafford went the way of Thunder after the hosts beat Central Sparks by 28 runs on DLS in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. For Thunder it was a first victory in the competition this season with Emma Lamb’s 68 the pick of several good contributions with the bat before the England international struck with three late wickets to halt Sparks progress in the run chase.Abi Freeborn top-scored in the match with a run-a-ball 72 but the Sparks’ No. 3 failed to receive the necessary support to get the visitors over the line as the Thunder spun their way to victory, bowling their visitors out for 191.The win takes Thunder off the bottom of the table, level on four points with Sparks and Lightning, but with all three teams 10 points behind third-placed South East Stars.Opening Sparks pair Eve Jones and Davina Perrin made a steady start in pursuit of their 237 target, taking 34 runs from the 10-over powerplay, but in an explosive 12th over Jones pulled Deandra Dottin for the first six of the match before losing her off stump two balls later as the Thunder struck an early blow.

Perrin and Freeborn countered with a 67-run partnership to put the visitors on top either side of a further rain interruption that saw five overs lost from the innings leaving Sparks a revised target of 220 off 43 overs. Two wickets in three balls by left-arm spinner Hannah Jones brought Thunder back into contention at 111 for three in the 28th over. Ellie Threlkeld had Perrin stumped for 46 while Ami Campbell was brilliantly caught by Laura Marshall at short extra cover.Freeborn and Emily Arlott ran well to reduce the target to 83 required from the last 10 overs but Freeborn continued to lose partners with the off-spin of Lamb accounting for Arlott, Thea Brooks and Ria Fackrell in quick succession with a decisive seven-over spell of 3 for 26 from the James Anderson end.Although Freeborn reached a 59-ball fifty she perished to Alex Hartley for 72 at the start of the 40th over and Kate Cross finished proceedings with two wickets from consecutive balls.Following a delayed start with four overs lost to rain, Sparks inserted Thunder on a pitch offering the bowlers some assistance on a damp and overcast afternoon.Emily Arlott took four wickets•Laura Malkin/Laura MalkinArlott and Grace Potts made the most of the conditions bowling a tight line and length to make early inroads and restrict Thunder to 28 for 2 from the opening 10-over powerplay.Arlott took a sensational one-handed catch in her first over to have Georgie Boyce caught and bowled for a duck while Potts, who had been cut for the first four of the match by Dottin, trapped the Thunder overseas allrounder lbw for eight. It was Lamb – in such fine form this summer – who led a good Thunder recovery, well supported by Laura Marshall in a 90-run partnership from 82 balls as conditions eased.Lamb made the most of being dropped on 30 at point off seamer Liz Russell to reach fifty for the ninth time this season across all formats from 52 balls while Marshall played with increasing assurance in making 41 before chipping a return catch to spinner Georgia Davis.Captain Threlkeld helped maintain momentum with 40 from 49 balls in partnership with Lamb before the England opener missed a reverse sweep off legspinner Hannah Baker to depart for an excellent 68 with Thunder 154 for 4 after 30 overs.Threlkeld and Cross continued the Thunder attack by adding 65 runs for the sixth wicket across 11 overs before both departed in the hunt for late runs; Cross holing out to Campbell at deep midwicket off Potts for 38 and Threlkeld bowled for 46 by the excellent Arlott who finished with four for 36 from her 10 overs. And Thunder’s 236 for 9 from their 48 overs, and the later revised target, proved to be enough.

Nottingham Forest now readying improved attempt to sign "elusive" £21m+ ace

Turning towards the January transfer window to cement their Champions League and possibly even title hopes, Nottingham Forest are now reportedly readying a fresh attempt to sign a winger worth over £21m this month.

Nottingham Forest transfer news

For the first time, Nottingham Forest can put their current Premier League standing to good use and welcome further impressive reinforcements before the end of this month. Joining up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the current climate would certainly be a difficult prospect for players to resist in what should hand the Midlands club a major boost in pursuit of their targets.

Among those already mentioned regarding potential mid-season switches is Douglas Luiz, who could complete a controversial loan move to Nottingham Forest just six months after ditching Midlands rivals Aston Villa for a permanent move to Italian giants Juventus.

The move simply has not worked out, however, and now the Brazilian could find himself at the heart of a second shock top four finish in two seasons after playing a vital role in Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification in the previous campaign.

That’s not to say he’s been the only name mentioned though. According to Turkish newspaper Sabah, as relayed by Sport Witness, Nottingham Forest are now readying a fresh attempt to sign Baris Alper Yilmaz from Galatasaray, who are reportedly confident that they’ll keep hold of their winger after rejecting an initial €25m (£21m) offer from the City Ground.

Watch out Wood: Nottingham Forest could land their own Gyokeres in £35m ace

Nottingham Forest could target added attacking reinforcements to bolster their top four hopes.

ByEthan Lamb Jan 8, 2025

With over two weeks remaining of the winter window, Yilmaz will certainly be one to watch with Forest not giving up and in a better position than ever in the Premier League to welcome such talents.

If the Midlands club are looking to seal Champions League qualification in style then signing Yilmaz would go a long way towards achieving exactly that come the end of May.

"Elusive" Yilmaz is one to watch

Whilst Forest currently have a wealth of attacking options to choose from – be it Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga or Ramon Sosa and Jota Silva – Yilmaz’s impressive form cannot be denied. The Galatasaray star has netted nine goals in 24 games in all competitions so far this season – more than Hudson-Odoi and Elanga combined.

So the argument is certainly there to be had that Yilmaz would be a welcomed upgrade at the City Ground and one ready to take Champions League football by storm next season.

Lighting up Euro 2024 at times in the summer too, Yilmaz earned high praise from Netherlands and Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. The defender told reporters as relayed by GiveMeSport: “Baris Alper Yilmaz was running constantly. He was running elusive. It was difficult for every defender. He made it very hard for us. He couldn’t score a goal though. If we were to describe him in any way, he is a really important player.”

It speaks volumes about Yilmaz’s quality that one of, if not the best defender that world football has to offer was impressed enough to hand him such significant praise and the winger could yet get the chance to impress the Liverpool man once again if he completes a January move to Nottingham Forest.

Ponting and Khawaja flag BBL concerns amid rise of new T20 leagues

The pair have said there is already evidence of players favouring other competitions

Alex Malcolm22-Jul-2022Cricket Australia is under more pressure than ever before to attract big-name overseas talent to the BBL due to the huge sums of money that might be on offer in the new South Africa and UAE T20 leagues which will run at a similar time of the year, according to both Ricky Ponting and Usman Khawaja.Ponting has moved into a team role in the BBL for the first time since playing and commentating on the tournament through the first 11 years having been appointed as Hobart Hurricanes’ head of strategy. He made his first key appointments on Friday announcing Jeff Vaughan as head coach for the next three years alongside new assistants James Hopes and Darren Berry.Ponting and his new coaching staff held a three-hour meeting on Thursday night in which they discussed Hurricanes’ plans for the upcoming overseas player draft which is to be held on August 28. Hurricanes will have the last pick (8th) in the first two rounds after being drawn out last in the weighted lottery. But following the development that the new South Africa T20 league had sold ownership of each of their new franchises to IPL owners, and with the likelihood of the same thing happening in the UAE, Ponting warned the BBL might be under greater threat than ever in terms of attracting the best players given the overlaps in January.Related

Gilchrist: 'Commercial suicide' for Cricket Australia if Warner & Co skip BBL for other T20 leagues

“There might be more pressure on Cricket Australia now than ever before,” Ponting said. “I’ve got no idea what Cricket Australia are thinking as far as the current model they’ve got, but it just seems that, if you look at the draft already this year, and you look at the player availability, it looks like the majority of the players are pretty happy to commit to the BBL for the first part, the first six or eight games.”Then the South African tournament is going to start up in mid-January and you can guarantee the players are probably going to look to play the first half here and go play the second half over there, which for a tournament like the Big Bash is not ideal. So if there are ways around that and ways that that can be changed, then I think Cricket Australia most definitely have to look at that.”

Even for the local players here, if leagues start coming up in UAE, South Africa, wherever, what if a local player starts thinking I’ll get paid twice as much money to go and play over there, why would I stay here in the Big BashUsman Khawaja

Time to go private?Khawaja was even more forthright on the threat CA faces from the overseas tournaments. He was part of the Australian Cricketers’ Association delegates conference in Melbourne earlier this week where CA CEO Nick Hockley and head of the BBL Alistair Dobson both presented on the upcoming season and the draft. Khawaja again stated his belief the competition had to look to private investment.”I’ve spoken about this before, I think there’s a fork in the road for the Big Bash in my personal opinion,” Khawaja said. “I don’t speak for ACA or CA, my personal opinion is the BBL needs to look to privatising because the money needs to come from somewhere. Players won’t come to the Big Bash unless you are paying them the right money.”There are other tournaments starting up that are privatised. If you don’t keep up with that, and there’s a small window for the Big Bash to privatise in the next few years, and I’m afraid if we don’t do that we’ll fall behind. Already you’ll see players not list for the draft. I’ve talked to a couple and they’ve not listed for the draft because they want to spend Christmas at home and then will go and play in the UAE. That’s a red flag for me already.”The money has to come from somewhere and you don’t necessarily want it to come from CA’s stock, then that affects another part of the organisation. So why not bring money from outside. I think the IPL is a very good model. If we aren’t trying to follow that type of progression, I feel like the BBL can be left behind.”This season the BBL will run from December 13 to February 4 with overseas players able to nominate how much they are available for.Hobart Hurricanes head of strategy Ricky Ponting appointed Jeff Vaughan as Hurricanes new coach•Cricket TasmaniaFaf du Plessis has put his name in the draft along with current South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw, among a host of other names. Du Plessis is set to be bracketed as a platinum player but may not be available for the second half of the tournament if he opts for the South African league, meaning BBL teams have to weigh up whether he or another platinum player is worth using roughly AUD$200,000 from a $1.9 million salary cap for half a season. Platinum players are set to earn up to $340,000 but CA will make up the difference which will sit outside the cap.BBL teams have opted for lower tier overseas in the past in order to have them available for the whole tournament with Perth Scorchers recruitment of Colin Munro and Laurie Evans last year a prime example.”If you are going to have 14 games like IPL the money has to match,” Khawaja said. “Even for the local players here, if leagues start coming up in UAE, South Africa, wherever, what if a local player starts thinking I’ll get paid twice as much money to go and play over there, why would I stay here in the Big Bash. Those are the questions we have to ask ourselves. I don’t think the amount of games is the issue, personally, it’s the salary cap.”Homegrown namesThe recruitment of Australian internationals is another element to this year’s tournament with multi-format players, some of who don’t have clubs, set to be available for the last three weeks after the scheduled ODI series with South Africa was cancelled.Last season Steven Smith was not allowed to play in the finals for Sydney Sixers despite wanting to. A key part of the next MOU negotiations between CA and the ACA, due to formally begin in September, will be regarding CA contracted players appearing in the BBL when available. David Warner has not played in the tournament since 2013 and Mitchell Starc has already said he won’t be available this year as he opts to rest. Whether they are forced to play and who they play for is an issue that needs to be resolved in the near future.Steven Smith will likely appear in the BBL this season•Getty Images”I don’t think players would like to be told where they’re playing,” Ponting said. “I think they would want to have the choice. I know that was one of the things we were talking about last night is, if there is a chance for us to be able to get hold of some of the guys that are going to have quite a decent break now through the middle of this tournament, so we threw a few names around there.”This has been spoken about for a long time now as well. How do we get the Australian players back into BBL but more importantly, if we do, how are they remunerated, and what teams are they associated with? And I think it’s coming to the point now…with these other tournaments around the world that more and more attention needs to be paid to that for the BBL’s sake.”I think there’s a chance attracting the best overseas talent here is probably going to get harder and harder as we’ve seen already the last three or four seasons. But the most important thing is getting our best Australian players when at all available to come and play in the BBL.”

Wolves could land dream Lemina replacement in PL “Swiss army knife”

If there is one thing Wolverhampton Wanderers need for their ongoing relegation battle, it is a sense of commitment to their fight for survival within their squad. That seems like something Vitor Pereira has looked to maintain during his short time at the club so far, and it was something former boss Gary O’Neil instilled.

In his first six games across all competitions, the Old Gold boss has overseen three wins, one draw and two losses. They were back-to-back defeats in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. It has been a solid start to his tenure at Molineux.

Agbadou

Almost all of the squad seems to be on board and ready to fight for survival. However, former club captain Mario Lemina seems destined to leave the West Midlands.

Lemina’s 2024/25 season

It has been a very strange season for Gabon international midfielder Lemina. He began the campaign as a key player for the Old Gold and has played 19 times across all competitions. At the beginning of the season, he was also club captain, although was stripped of that title.

During mid-December, O’Neil confirmed that the captaincy had been passed from Lemina to experienced full-back Nelson Semedo.

That came after a fight with West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen after their game at the London Stadium. O’Neil confirmed that “sparked the conversation” for a change in the captaincy.

Now, the West Midlands outfit might lose the midfielder altogether, in a situation that has escalated fairly quickly. After their 3-0 defeat away to Newcastle United, which Lemina was not part of, Pereira confirmed he “wants to leave” Molineux this month.

The new man in the hot seat at Wolves explained “with this energy and this mentality, I don’t need him”. It seems certain that the former captain will leave Molineux just one month after being relieved of his duties as skipper.

Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina.

Indeed, the Old Gold may well have their replacement in mind already and could make a move before the end of the January transfer window.

Wolves’ dream Lemina replacement

The player in question here is Chelsea youngster Renato Veiga, with reports earlier in the window suggesting that Wolves had enquired about a potential loan move, which was rebuffed by the Blues. Perhaps, however, going in for another approach would be a wise choice for the Old Gold.

The 21-year-old has been impressive for Enzo Maresca’s side so far this term, having made 18 appearances across all competitions for the Blues.

He has scored twice and grabbed one assist, registering a goal and assist against Gent in the Conference League.

He has clearly made a lasting impression on Blues fans so far, with Alex Goldberg full of praise for the Portuguese star. He explained that “anything he touches turns to gold”, a metaphor of course, but still something that shows just how well he has played.

One of the biggest advantages of signing Veiga would be the fact Wolves have something of a utility man in their squad. Described as a “Swiss army knife” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, he can play in multiple positions in defence and midfield.

Indeed, this certainly rings true when looking at the positions he played for former club Basel, and, of course, Chelsea. The Portuguese starlet has been trusted across the defence, at full-back and centre-back, and in the midfield.

This must be an appealing factor for Wolves, and one reason why Pereira might want to sign his countryman. Not only would they be bringing in a Lemina replacement in midfield, but also someone who can play at left centre-back in his back three system.

This certainly seems like the perfect deal for Wolves. It might be tough to convince Chelsea to part ways with their versatile star, but if it is possible, then it could be a fantastic piece of business for the Old Gold.
