Despite Newcastle United's injury crisis this campaign, it has come with a positive as it's allowed boss Eddie Howe to give valuable first-team minutes to multiple youngsters within the club.

Lewis Miley and Elliot Anderson have been the main beneficiaries for the Magpies, with the duo making 38 Premier League appearances between them this season.

18-year-old Miley has taken the league by storm despite his tender age, becoming a real mainstay in the Newcastle side, after the injuries and suspension to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali, respectively.

He managed to score his first top-flight goal in the 3-0 victory against Fulham at St James' Park back in December, with the youngster going from strength to strength after his goal.

After Miley's brilliant start to life in the first team under Howe, the Magpies boss and Saudi PIF should step up the chase for another teenage talent who has been linked with a move to the club.

Newcastle interested in 18-year-old talent this summer

According to a report from Sky Germany over the weekend, Newcastle are battling numerous Premier League sides for the signature of 18-year-old talent Assan Ouedraogo.

The attacking midfielder, who plays for Schalke in Bundesliga 2, has excelled for the side despite the club struggling to secure an immediate return to Germany's top flight.

He's scored three times and contributed with two assists in 17 appearances this season in what has been a breakthrough season for the youngster.

Despite the Magpies's interest, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool all remain interested in Ouedraogo, who would cost either of the sides in excess of £12m this summer.

Why Ouedraogo could be the next Bellingham

In previous months, Transfermarkt's Manuel Veth has compared the youngster to Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham – a reasonable comparison given their similar rise and stats in 2023/24.

The duo both made the first impact on professional football playing at their boyhood clubs in the second tier of their respective countries, before either moving or being linked with a transfer to one of Europe’s elite. Bellingham, of course, started life at Birmingham City, for whom he made 44 appearances as a teenager, scoring twice and providing two assists.

When comparing their stats from the previous season, the duo have produced similar figures, albeit at vastly different levels of quality – with the Champions League-winning Bellingham recording 36 goals and assists in his debut season at the Bernabeu.

The German youngster has averaged slightly fewer shots per 90 than the Champions League winner, but has averaged nearly double the amount of successful take-ons – demonstrating his ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet.

Whilst he averages more take-ons, the pair both have the same completion rate of 52%, but both average very similar averages when it comes to assists per 90.

Ouedraogo undoubtedly has a long way to go before he reaches the levels of Bellingham, but the midfielder, who’s “destined for elite football” according to data analyst Ben Mattinson, has the potential to be special.

With the club already having success with Miley, the Magpies must pursue a deal for the youngster, keeping one eye on the future but also vastly improving their current squad depth.

Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq rued his side’s lack of fortune at crucial times on the fourth day as Pakistan slumped to a tense three-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the first Test at Old Trafford. Writing for the PCB’s in-house website, Misbah said Pakistan “were right on top until pretty much the last session of the game” and warned his players not to be “mentally down” as they try and hit back in the second Test, which starts on Thursday.In a detailed piece addressed to supporters following one of the more agonising defeats in recent years, Misbah paid “full credit to England for the way they fought back” and admitted his side may have panicked at crucial moments during Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler’s 139-run sixth wicket partnership during England’s chase. He addressed the failure of the Pakistan side to bowl short at Woakes early on during his innings – a perceived weakness of the England allrounder – but said Woakes and Buttler “had quite a lot of luck in that partnership”.”We are feeling frustrated, just as the fans are, after the Old Trafford Test match but this is how cricket is,” he wrote. “There are very small margins between victory and defeat and it’s easy to curse yourself when you’ve lost. It meant England were set 277 to chase, which might have been a stiff target, but wasn’t the insurmountable one Pakistan would have been hoping for given the way the Test had panned out until then.However, only once had a higher fourth innings target ever been successfully chased at Old Trafford, and Pakistan had only ever lost four Tests having set a target higher than the 277 they set England for victory. Chelsea were heavily involved in the race for Victor Osimhen, but it appears the £113 million release clause in his contract wasn't a price worth paying for chairman Todd Boehly. Chelsea also missed out on a deal for RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko, who put pen to paper on a new and improved contract at his current club instead of vying for the Premier League.

Sesko had an offer from Chelsea to join them, but following their failed attempt to prise the Slovenia international away, 20-year-old Duran has emerged as the most concrete striking option with talks ongoing over a deal.

Chelsea's policy of signing raw, exciting talents is showing no sign of slowing down – having brought in a host of players under the age of 23 since Boehly's takeover in 2022.

Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea from Palmeiras in the last few weeks as well, while reports have also centered around a move for Sport Recife's Pedro Lima. Chelsea have reportedly beat the likes of Tottenham and Atletico to the signing of Lima, with the 17-year-old soon to turn 18 and eligible to make the move to west London.

"Key detail: the deal will be done via BlueCo side Strasbourg. €7m fixed fee, €3.5m add-ons and player’s agent set to travel for final details."

The teenager has made 26 senior appearances in all competitions for Recife, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He can also operate as a right-winger, meaning he could prove a versatile asset in the years to come.

Passaram perto
A partida na Arena do Grêmio demorou pouco tempo para ganhar o primeiro lance de perigo. Logo no minuto inicial, Rossi recebeu pela direita, levou para o meio e tabelou com Rodriguinho. O camisa 7, mesmo sem ângulo, tentou o gol, mas errou o alvo.

Mesmo fora de casa, o Bahia não se acanhou e tentou impor o seu jogo diante do Grêmio, que encontrava dificuldades para criar. Assim, aos oito minutos, Nino Paraíba encontrou Rodriguinho, que avançou pelo meio e finalizou. A bola passou à esquerda de Gabriel Chapecó.

Grêmio cresce no jogo
Depois dos 15 minutos inicias que contaram com domínio do Bahia, o Grêmio passou a se impor jogando em casa. Desse modo, o Tricolor Gaúcho subiu suas linhas de marcação e trocou passes para conseguir arrumar espaço na compacta defesa adversária.

Sem conseguir invadir a área adversária, o plantel comandado pelo técnico Felipão arriscou algumas vezes de longe, mas quando a bola não saiu longe do alvo, os defensores do Bahia conseguiram bloquear as finalizações.

Depois do sumiço…
​Até os acréscimos, o jogo continuou sendo controlado pelo Grêmio, que seguia com a bola e buscando espaços. Aos 42 minutos, Rafinha apareceu de surpresa pelo meio, recebeu de Douglas Costa e finalizou. Matheus Teixeira caiu no canto direito e evitou o gol na melhor oportunidade dos donos da casa.

Por outro lado, o Bahia seguiu apagado no duelo, ficando pouco com a bola e desperdiçando a posse quando teve. Contudo, foi do Tricolor de Aço o lance mais perigoso da etapa. Nos acréscimos, Rodriguinho apareceu na primeira trave e cabeceou o cruzamento vindo da esquerda. A bola bateu na trave esquerda de Gabriel Chapecó e não entrou. Assim, o placar foi em 0 a 0 para o intervalo.

Chegou voando
A volta para o 2° tempo continuou refletindo o domínio do Grêmio com a bola, mas, diferentemente do que aconteceu na etapa inicial, a equipe gaúcha conseguiu chegar com perigo e logo foi às redes.

Aos três minutos, Rafinha foi acionado pela direita e cruzou de primeira, mirando a segunda trave. Na disputa com Nino Paraíba, Borja chegou na frente e não deu chances para Matheus Teixeira, fazendo 1 a 0 para a equipe da casa na Arena.

Grêmio em busca de mais
Mesmo depois do gol, o Grêmio continuou criando as principais oportunidades. Lucas Silva e Alisson tentaram ampliar o marcador. O primeiro aproveitou contra-ataque rápido e finalizou para defesa firme de Matheus Teixeira. O segundo tentou emendar uma sobra de bola, mas errou o alvo.

Com o tempo, o Tricolor Gaúcho diminuiu o ritmo e ficou à espreita para tentar aproveitar os contra-ataques. Em um deles, Borja tentou o chute, mas escorregou.

Bahia assusta, mas quem faz é o Grêmio
​Com as linhas do Grêmio baixas e precisando do resultado, o Bahia se lançou ao ataque buscando o empate. O Tricolor Baiano ficou no quase aos 26 minutos. Após sobra na área, Raí ficou com a bola à sua frente para finalizar. Contudo, o jovem pegou firme na bola e acabou mandando por cima do gol.

Sem muita criatividade, o Bahia abusou dos erros e se entregou ao desespero. Como resultado, deixou espaços no seu campo defensivo. Aos 49 minutos, o Grêmio conseguiu encaixar o contra-ataque mortal em arrancada de Lucas Silva, que serviu Diego Souza. Ao trancos e barrancos, o centroavante saiu na cara de Matheus Teixeira e fechou o placar em 2 a 0.

It's not even been a week since the transfer window officially opened, but the stories about potential moves just keep coming for Premier League sides, and Arsenal are no different.

Now, if it does come down to a straight shootout between Onana and Guimaers for the third spot in Arsenal's midfield next season, who would be the better option?

Well, both the Brazilian and Belgian are comfortable playing as a six and eight, and while they both have more experience in the former, it seems likely that they would be coming in to play the latter.

This is because Declan Rice started most games at the base of midfield last season and performed brilliantly, racking up seven goals and ten assists in 51 games.

Impressively, the Newcastle dynamo produced the same number of goals and assists in one game fewer, but the Everton man could only muster three goals and one assist in 37 games.

The Toffees ace does have a marginally better passing accuracy and makes more tackles, but that really is about it.

Ultimately, if Arteta and Edu want to see Arsenal take another step forward this summer, then they should be going all out to try and bring Newcastle's Brazilian "leader", as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, to the club in the coming weeks and months.
