While the last summer transfer window was a good one for Everton, supporters would not have been completely satisfied after the club failed to bring in a new centre-forward. 

And the upcoming market could follow a similar theme with director of football Marcel Brands not ruling out the possibility of a No.9 not being signed.

The Breakdown

“I think we have a good squad and I am aware that the fans are asking if we can find a new striker who can score 20 goals,” Brands was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“I think we are a very, very lucky club in England that we have three players with great potential who are just 21-years-old. We have Dominic [Calvert-Lewin], we have Richarlison and we have Ademola [Lookman]. And if I bring in a new player, a huge striker or a name, should I destroy one of them? It is also my goal to protect those boys.”

The above is certainly a fair point made by Brands, especially when considering the form of Calvert-Lewin in recent weeks.

However, for a club that aspires to be a Champions League outfit, not investing in a No.9 who has the potential to score 20 goals a season is bizarre.

Perhaps Brands and Everton are taking inspiration from a side such as Tottenham, who adopted the same approach with Harry Kane and are now reaping the rewards.

A previous spending spree by the north London club that went horribly wrong is also an example of splashing the cash not always being the answer.

Yet in this case, it is probably something the Goodison Park faithful want to see after a pretty underwhelming campaign where Marco Silva has bee without a consistent No.9.

Newcastle are reportedly eyeing a move for Hamburg youngster Josha Vagnoman – could he solve the Magpies’ long-running search for a left-back?

What’s the story?

According to BILD, Newcastle are one of several English teams interested in the 18 year-old defender.

The report claims that the Magpies, along with both Fulham and Brentford, have approached player’s agency about a potential move.

BILD say they expect the asking price to be around €10m (about £8.6m).

The teenager did sign a new contract in Hamburg last summer, but it only extends to the summer of 2021.

Is he good enough?

Vagnoman is very highly rated by his club, and it’s easy to see why. At 6 ft 1 in tall and already showing great physicality for such a young player, the 18 year-old would be well prepared for the rough and tumble of the Premier League.

As if often the case with players that rise through the ranks in Germany, he is also extremely technically gifted and reliable in possession.

This combination of size, strength and technical quality means that Rafael Benitez could happily deploy him at left-wing-back in his usual five-at-the-back formation, or let him spray the ball around from deep like Fabian Schar has done this season.

Another solution needed in the short-term

However, Vagnoman is only 18, and has just one Bundesliga appearance to his name, with his showings this season all coming in the 2.Bundesliga after his side were relegated last year.

This would make him a huge risk to come in and take over at left-back straight away, and it could be as many as two to three years on Tyneside before he is really ready to compete week in week out in the world’s most competitive league.

Benitez and the club are right to eye Vagnoman this summer – he is a fantastic young player with sky-high potential. His lack of experience is his one major flaw though, and the Magpies should not consider him an immediate solution to their left-back problem.

أكد حازم إمام وكيل اللاعب الأنجولي آري بابل، أنه حرص على تسويق موكله في الإمارات والسعودية بعد تراجع الزمالك عن ضمه.

وأعلن التعاون السعودي عن تعاقده رسميًا مع آري بابل لمدة موسمين قادمًا من صفوف أول أغسطس.

Davide Santon joined Newcastle United from Inter Milan in 2011.

The defender ultimately spent three and a half seasons with the Magpies, making 94 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League outfit, including 82 in the top flight of English football.

Once considered a wonderkid, Santon returned to Inter in 2015, spending another three years with the Serie A giants before joining Roma in 2018.

Santon only turned 28 earlier this year and had things worked out differently then the eight-time Italy international might have still been turning out for Newcastle.

Santon has been quoted as saying that he ‘still follows’ the Magpies and will always have a special place in his heart for the English club.

It is fair to say that Marcelo Bielsa has done a sensational job since joining Leeds United last summer.

The Argentine manager’s tactical prowess has helped to turn around the club’s fortunes this season, leaving them within striking distance of a first top-flight campaign in 15 years.

Therefore, regardless of whether the club achieves promotion in May, the Whites will understandably keen on him staying at Elland Road for the 2018/19 campaign.

However, according to reports from Italian outlets La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Messaggero via Football Italia, Bielsa is one of several managers alongside AS Monaco’s Leonardo Jardim and Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri to be on AS Roma’s shortlist to take over from caretaker boss Claudio Ranieri in the summer.

If the 63-year-old does decide to take up the role at I Giallorossi, Leeds will need to find a sufficient replacement with one name, in particular, standing out from the crowd.

Having left Huddersfield Town in January, David Wagner is still without a job despite achieving heroics at the West Yorkshire-based club. The American arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium amidst a relegation battle in the Championship yet after steering them to safety in 2016, he led them to a remarkable achievement in the following season.

Battling it out with Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion for the majority of the 2016/17 campaign, the Terriers eventually achieved promotion via the playoffs, beating Reading on penalties at Wembley Stadium.

In their first top-flight campaign for 45 years, Huddersfield went on to secure an unlikely survival under Wagner, illustrating his brilliant talent of getting the very best out of his players. Taking his past achievements into consideration, Leeds should offer the 47-year-old Bielsa’s position if they are to succeed in the future.

With experience of managing in England’s top two tiers, the appointment of Wagner would suit the Whites as he could easily continue the fantastic job that his predecessor has done.

However, Leeds will still be hopeful that Bielsa can continue the club’s footballing revolution next season, avoiding any interest from other clubs in Europe.

وقال اللاعب الإسباني في تصريحات لصحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية: “عندما أتذكر الإصابة، أشعر بقشعريرة، ركبتي كانت تتضخم، وأنا لا أريد تصديق ذلك، ولكن منذ ذلك الحين عرفت أنني في وضع خطير”.

وأضاف: “دخولي إلى غرفة العمليات كان من أسوأ لحظات حياتي، كنت في حالة من الذعر لم أدخلها من قبل، قلت لهم إنني لا أستطيع التحمل، الجميع كان حولي، لكنني لن انسى تلك اللحظات أبدًا”.

وأكد: “رأيت نفسي بعد العودة أنه يمكنني المشاركة في يورو 2020 مع إسبانيا، ولكن مع تأجيلها حتى 2021، ربما هذا يمنحني الوقت للعمل أكثر وتقديم أفضل ما لدي”.

وواصل: “في هذه الأيام لا أعرف ما يفكرون به، لقد مر وقت طويل منذ آخر استدعاء لمنتخب إسبانيا، لكنني سأواصل العمل لأكون هناك مرة أخرى”.

وأكمل: “إنريكي رفض الحديث عني وهذا من حقه بالتأكيد، لأنني لست ضمن المجموعة الآن، وهو لا يحب التحدث عن الأشخاص الذين لم يتم استدعائهم، لكنني أمتلك علاقة قوية معه، إنه رجل عظيم جدًأ”.

وتابع: “زيدان مُخلص للغاية، إنه يمنح الكثير من الهدوء إلى اللاعبين، هو مدرب رائع، منح ريال مدريد العديد من الألقاب، كل عام يتفوق على نفسه أكثر، وعندما كنت طفلًا كان لدي ملصق على الحائط في غرفتي، لهدف زيدان الأسطوري أمام ليفركوزن بنهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا”.

وعن إيدين هازارد، قال أسينسيو: “أرى هازارد جيدًا، الأمر صعب عليه لأنه لم يكن معتادًا على الإصابات، وما حدث له سوء حظ، بمجرد أن يشعر بالرضا، سيستعيد الثقة بسرعة”.

وأجاب على سؤال حول مستقبل ميسي: “لم أهتم إذا رحل ميسي أو بقي، إذا بقي فسيكون ذلك أفضل لبرشلونة بالتأكيد، وأنا أحب مواجهة الأفضل دائمًا، وإذا رحل لن يشغلني كثيرًا”.
