A number of Manchester City fans have been reacting to the latest report that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was ‘quite certain’ that he would move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

City had been consistently linked with a potential move for Koulibaly throughout the summer transfer window, but Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to meet Napoli’s asking price for the 29-year-old, so the centre-back ended up remaining with the Italian club, as per Sky Sports.

City had already brought in Nathan Ake in a £40 million deal from Bournemouth, and they opted to move for Benfica’s Ruben Dias instead of Koulibaly, signing the 23-year-old in a deal worth around £65 million, with Nicolas Otamendi moving in the opposite direction.

However, according to the latest report from Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Koulibaly was confident of making a move to City during the transfer window. That was before Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis set an €80 million (£72.2 million) price tag, which seemingly put City off the move.

Some City fans have been saying that the blame for the transfer failing to get over the line should be directed at De Laurentiis, while others pointed out that Dias was a better option anyway due to the difference in age between the pair.

Juventus have plans to revisit their interest in Wolves star Adama Traore next season after coming close to finalising a move this transfer window.

AS journalist Javier Matallanas claims that the Spaniard almost signed for the Serie A champions in a last-gasp move on Sunday. Juve had reportedly identified Traore as a back-up option to main target Federico Chiesa, who has signed for the Italians on a two-year loan deal (via Sport Witness).

However, despite missing out this time round, there are plans in place to try for a move next year, meaning Wolves must act fast to secure the 24-year-old talent.

Traore is a name that instils fear in nearly every opposition defence. The Spain international may not have contributed the highest amount of goals last season but his playmaking ability is extremely difficult to contain.

Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Premier League champion and Scotland captain Andy Robertson admitted that Traore “ripped me apart” when the two faced each other last season (via The Mirror). The winger’s rare combination of strength and blistering pace makes him a defender’s nightmare to deal with. These traits have been recognised by FIFA 21, who have assigned him an impressive 96 pace and 80 physical rating (via futhead.com).

Similarly, Jurgen Klopp lauded Traore’s performance against Liverpool last campaign, complimenting his “unplayable” form. He had also previously gone on record to label the winger “exceptional.”

Traore tallied a total of six goals and 12 assists last term, including scoring three times against Manchester City in two wins out of two in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt). His ability to break down the bigger teams will be a vital asset to the Wanderers moving forwards, as well as his versatility to play on the wing and in defence.

With all this mind, Nuno and Wolves must look to tie down Traore long-term, even if that means offering him fresh terms at Molineux, as he is such a vital asset – as six goals and 12 assists last season proves.

According to an update by Manchester Evening News journalist Simon Bajkowski, Liam Delap has been back training with the first team and is in contention to face Sheffield United on Saturday. 

Delap, who has emerged as a promising young attacking talent at the Etihad Stadium, was left out of the matchday squad to face West Ham last weekend – instead scoring a wondergoal for the Elite Development Squad in their 4-1 home thrashing of Arsenal.

The youngster last appeared for the senior team during a 2-1 win Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth last month, with Delap firing a wonderful finish over the helpless Mark Travers.

Indeed, the 6 foot 1 ace helped City to the next round but hasn’t started another match since, prompting many supporters to react to the news he could be back in contention this weekend.

Neil Lennon has breathed a sigh of relief after Celtic banked a 4-1 win over Motherwell in the Premiership this afternoon. The Hoops kept the pressure on league leaders Rangers and still have another all-important game in-hand to play.

Celtic’s star of the show was undeniably Mohamed Elyounoussi, who has apologised for his recent Europa League stunt with true class. The Southampton loanee bagged himself a hat-trick in a huge gesture which has not only restored his status, but gotten the Bhoys back on track.

However, not all of Lennon’s players put in an impressive performance. Despite the comfortable 4-1 scoreline, Diego Laxalt dropped a rather out-of-character poor display.

The left-back has put in some solid performances since he joined the Bhoys on loan, attracting praise from the likes of Chris Sutton who says the club has been “crying out for” a player like him for weeks.

However, today was not a good day at the office for Laxalt. According to Sofascore, the Uruguay international lost 66% of his attempted duels and was dribbled past on two occasions. He also lost the ball four times and committed two fouls. As a player who is usually eagle-eyed in attack, Laxalt additionally failed to make any successful crosses or long balls, despite attempting seven in total.

The 27-year-old’s performance will be far from a worry for Lennon, who will be pleased to be back on the bike and pedalling away. There’s a long road still to come as Celtic keep pushing to catch Rangers. One thing the manager must do however, is to ensure his squad are performing at the best of their abilities. The Hoops have lost too many matches so far to trust that performances like this won’t happen again.

Lennon must keep cracking the whip and not let individual displays slip.
