Celtic pocketed close to £1m after Jack Hendry sealed a deadline day move to Club Brugge from Oostende, according to The Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Busy final day

The Hoops were extremely busy on the final day of the summer window, bringing in three new faces in Georgios Giakoumakis, Filipe Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Leigh Griffiths, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard all sealed Parkhead exits, with Celtic coming out of the market with an £11.5m profit.

Hendry, who also left Celtic this summer for £1.35m, was on the move again, and that has helped the Hoops’ finances.

The Latest: Hendry move

Hendry signed for Club Brugge in a deal worth £6.8m on Tuesday, signing a four-year deal.

The Daily Record claim that the Hoops will receive almost £1m from a sell-on clause in the transfer between the two Belgian clubs.

The Verdict: Scales and Shaw paid for

With Celtic set to receive close to seven figures for Hendry, that has meant that Dominic McKay has secured the services of Liam Scales and Liam Shaw for effectively nothing.

The versatile pair arrived at a combined fee of £851,000 from Shamrock Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Hendry’s sell-on clause should cover both of those deals, and who knows, Celtic could end up making a profit on both Liam’s in years to come as well.

This feels like a really positive start to McKay’s reign.

The arrival of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has provided a significant boost to the Old Trafford outfit in their pursuit of the top-flight title, but his return isn’t the only positive update for United.

Solskjaer confirmed that Dean Henderson is available once again after suffering from the after-effects of a viral infection, and summer signing Jadon Sancho is also in contention to start, although Alex Telles and Scott McTominay haven’t recovered in time.

“They’re all training. Dean (Henderson) has not got the after-effect and tiredness anymore, that’s very positive,” the Norwegian revealed in Friday’s press conference.

“(Alex) Telles is not 100 per cent yet, still a few weeks, and Scott (McTominay) has recovered very quickly from the operation. He’s probably not going to play, depending on who we’ve got available and can use.

With that in mind, here’s how Football FanCast expects Solskjaer to line up at Old Trafford, with Ronaldo making his second debut for the club…

Despite Henderson’s recovery, we expect Solskjaer to stick with David de Gea in goal after the Spain international made a solid start to the new season, keeping a clean sheet last time out.

There should also be a familiar feel to the back four, with Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka keeping their places in defence.

However, Solskjaer has some big decisions to make in the midfield. A last-minute U-turn from South American associations means that Fred is now available for selection, but after underwhelming displays against the Saints and Wolves, it’s unlikely that either Nemanja Matic or Paul Pogba will partner him in the engine room.

That means that Donny van de Beek could get a rare opportunity to impress from the off in McTominay’s absence, meaning that Pogba will be fielded out wide in place of the £90m-rated Sancho after a slow start to life in Manchester for the 21-year-old.

A trio of Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo should complete the forward line as United look to mark the latter’s momentous return with a win.

From the time John Dyson took over as West Indies head coach, the Australian has repeatedly drilled it into Jerome Taylor’s head – and anyone else’s who cared to listen – that he possesses the batting ability to become a genuine allrounder.It has taken some time but the proof was indisputably provided at the University Oval here on Sunday with an innings by Taylor as exhilarating and critical as any by a West Indian of late, whatever his reputation or position in the order.For two hours, ten minutes on another overcast, if less wintry, day, Taylor reeled off classic stroke after classic stroke on his way to 106 from 107 balls. The highlights were 17 fours and three sixes, two off Daniel Vettori, Test cricket’s premier left-arm spinner with 275 wickets to his name.His runs were gathered in all directions, mainly with fierce drives and wristy leg-side flicks, with a few neat cuts in between. Several were hoisted over fielders, those along the ground were threaded through defensive field settings. There was not the hint of a chance until he touched a catch to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum off Vettori.By itself, it was truly special. The circumstances made it even more so. When Taylor arrived in the middle at half-past three, nearly half-way through the extended day, West Indies were in the course of one of their familiar wobbles.They were 173 for 6, still 192 adrift of New Zealand’s 365, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was stalled, only the four fast bowlers were to follow and there was ample time left for embarrassment, if not defeat. When Mills was rested after a spell of six overs for five runs and the wicket of Nash, Chanderpaul took three boundaries in the left-arm medium-pacer James Franklin’s first over.At the opposite end, Taylor hoisted Vettori straight for two fours and a six. The shackles were broken and nothing could then contain Taylor. By tea, he was 53 and had swept past not only his previous highest Test score of 31 but also Chanderpaul who had a 30 overs headstart.The new ball was introduced right after the break but, hard and shiny, it came faster off the bat. Mark Gillespie attempted to bounce Taylor out, placing a short leg for the catch, only to be hooked and pulled. Three sweet boundaries followed in his next over and Taylor reached his rare landmark from 97 balls with an exquisite cover drive off Franklin for his 16th four. His team-mates had all assembled on the boundary’s edge for the moment to hail the achievement and join in his jubilation in the middle.Soon, it was over, ending a partnership of 152 that bettered the West Indies record for the wicket against New Zealand, set 52 years ago at Christchurch by Denis Atkinson and John Goddard. As Taylor walked off, spectators on the grass bank and in the grandstand were on their feet in applause. They had been treated to a quality performance.

They were similarly entertained by Chris Gayle’s breathtaking power in moving from 29 at the start to 74. But he was one of four wickets in the first session. Like Sewnarine Chattergoon and Ramnaresh Sarwan before him, he succumbed to a limp shot when his first hundred since 2005 seemed inevitable.He and Chattergoon were undone by miscued hooks. Sarwan drove airily to be caught behind after earning a reprieve on a review of an lbw decision one ball earlier. Xavier Marshall flattered with his positive, eye-catching style but his dismissal to a bat-pad catch, awarded on the television review, was not unexpected after his scoring was stifled by tight bowling.Nash replaced him and was dropped off his sixth ball by Ross Taylor, low and right-handed, at first slip off Mills. After batting with composure for an hour after his let-off, he steered Mills to gully, a shot of impatience. Denesh Ramdin quickly followed, the lbw decision to Vettori confirmed by a prolonged television review, leaving the vulnerable tail exposed.Just how vulnerable was quickly obvious as Vettori removed Powell first ball and Fidel Edwards without scoring. He claimed his sixth wicket when Chanderpaul, out of partners, tried to paddle to leg to get the strike and was bowled. Never mind, there were 76 more runs to his tally.

Leeds United have been dealt a blow regarding the fitness of Adam Forshaw ahead of the Whites’ upcoming Premier League fixture.

That’s according to a report by Leeds Live which said that Marcelo Bielsa revealed following the 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday that the midfielder was not available for selection as a result of a muscle strain, something which would appear to cast serious doubt as to whether the 29-year-old will be available for the trip to Newcastle United on Friday.

Forshaw has not featured in a league game for the Whites in almost two years, having previously been sidelined due to a hip injury.

Fans will be gutted

Considering the influential role Forshaw held in the side prior to his long-term injury, the midfielder’s latest setback in his recovery is sure to have left the Elland Road faithful gutted.

Indeed, the £1.8m-rated man impressed over his 30 Championship appearances in Bielsa’s first season at Leeds, averaging 0.9 key passes, 0.7 interceptions and 2.2 tackles and winning 5.4 duels per game.

These returns saw the £23k-per-week midfielder earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.91, ranking him as the Whites’ joint eighth-best performer in the second tier of English football – level with Kalvin Phillips.

As such, it is undeniable that the 29-year-old’s return to first team action would be a considerable boost for his club, especially when considering the sheer length of time for which he has been sidelined.

However, whether or not Forshaw is the same player he was two years ago remains very much up in the air, and it is something which will only be discovered when (or even if) the midfielder finally manages to get back on the pitch on a regular basis.
