Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs talks up newbie Daniel James

[ad_pod ]Manchester United newbie Daniel James is leading the way as one of the club’s most exciting players. There have been very few positives to take from the start of United’s Premier League season, which has seen them win just one in four games, including a loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford and draws against Wolves and Southampton on their travels.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

However, Wales international James is doing his personal best to keep spirits high with three goals in his opening four appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. We daren’t imagine the shame the club would be facing without them.

Indeed, should the 21-year-old continue on a similar trajectory, he would make the very exclusive list of talisman to emerge from that part of the world, including Mark Hughes and wing wizard Ryan Giggs, and we all know that’s something that would be welcomed at Old Trafford, especially given the current climate.

In a recent interview, current Wales boss Giggs was full of praise for his United apprentice…

Man United fans respond to James Maddison’s career admission

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have been on social media reacting to recent comments from James Maddison surrounding his future in the game.

Indeed, in quotes carried by The Mirror, Maddison revealed that he is desperate to play at the ‘highest level’ possible having worked his way up from League One.

The 22-year-old is currently with the England squad preparing for Tuesday night’s Euro 2020 qualifier with Kosovo.

The Leicester City attacker was not involved in the 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday, but his call-up into the senior England squad will be seen as a huge positive.

And in response to Maddison’s quotes surrounding his future plans, a number of United supporters have urged the attacker to move to Old Trafford.

The Englishman has managed two assists in four Premier League appearances this season, and could be regarded as a replacement for Jesse Lingard at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid could get their Galactico signing with Christian Eriksen

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

All summer long, Real Madrid have been longing for their Galactico signings, or at least, that was the narrative the media around them tried to create. And when that pursuit yielded no real results, and they ended up bringing in just one star, it was labelled as a failure. But now, if the reports from AS are to be believed, Los Blancos have finally found their man.

What’s the word, then?

Real Madrid have been flirting with Paul Pogba for a while now and though nothing is for certain, it does look unlikely that a deal will be struck anytime soon.

At least that’s what the reported €200m (£178,6m) asking price would indicate at first. AS also go on to say that Manchester United will be looking to offer the Frenchman a new contract, which would make things a lot more difficult than they already are.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

But they don’t have to be. All Real Madrid have to do is drop the pursuit that is likely to leave their wallets empty and nerves spent and turn to another, seemingly more attainable target who could offer a similar amount of quality: Christian Eriksen.

A new Galactico for Real

If Real Madrid are indeed on a hunt for Galactico signings to please both the fans and the media’s outcries, they really shouldn’t look much further than Eriksen. The 27-year-old midfielder is a name well-known in the world of football and one that could most likely give them exactly what they’re seeking.

And the best part is that the Dane is entering the final stretches of his Tottenham Hotspur contract and has so far not shown any indication that he will sign a new one. Of course, this means that Real Madrid can even grab him for free should he decide to join, and they will be able to land him on a pre-contract agreement in January.

But money was never really a big problem for a club in Real who are no strangers to spending the big bucks to land their targets. They’ve shown as much when they scooped up Eden Hazard from Chelsea just this summer. But Eriksen brings a lot of quality as well and would be a Galactico even if he arrives on the cheap.

Just last season, he scored 10 goals and assisted 17 across all competitions for Spurs. Getting such a target would be quite a prize in itself but landing him on the cheap or, even better, for free, would make the deal that little bit sweeter.

AS also state that the player has been offered a new contract by Daniel Levy, and a tempting one at that.

With that news in mind, Los Blancos better hurry while the contract is only on the table and not laced with Eriksen’s freshly documented signature.

Aston Villa’s potential starting XI against West Ham in the Premier League

[ad_pod ]

The fifth game week of the Premier League season draws to a close tonight as Aston Villa play host to West Ham at Villa Park.

Dean Smith’s men will be looking to turn their fortunes around after losing three of their opening four matches while for the visitors they’ll be wanting to continue their unbeaten run after losing the first match of the season to reigning champions, Manchester City.

Villa’s only win of the campaign came here in a live televised game against Everton, so there’s definitely some cause for optimism going into tonight’s fixture.

Watch Aston Villa Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The manager will be forced into at least one change as winger Trezeguet faces a one-game suspension for picking up two yellow cards last time out against Crystal Palace.

So, how will Villa line up against the Hammers?

Matt Targett’s injury means that Neil Taylor is likely to keep his place while the rest of the backline and the goalkeeper should remain pretty much the same – Tyrone Mings is fresh from international duty and did not feature for England.

His partnership with Bjorn Engels has been an early-season highlight, both rating inside the top four for average rating in the side, per WhoScored.

A tough decision for Smith lies in midfield, will he stick or twist with Douglas Luiz? We think he’ll opt for Marvelous Nakamba, who would be making his Premier League debut if so.

The 48-year-old’s recent comments offer encouragement to why and we also make a case for it being a good move to add some defensive stability to their midfield here.

Smith recently said: “[Marvelous Nakamba] hasn’t missed a training session and has looked really good. He’s one who’s really pushing the likes of Douglas Luiz in the team.”

Anwar El Ghazi and Jota could occupy the two wing positions in the absence of Trezeguet while Wesley should continue to lead the line – he scored his first goal for the club at Villa Park a few weeks ago.

If he could do it again, that would certainly help their cause.

Barcelona will need Junior Firpo to shine in Jordi Alba’s absence

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Although they took a point from their 0-0 draw with Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona did not come out of the game entirely unscathed.

Jordi Alba had to be substituted off before half-time, and the Catalan giants have already officially confirmed his hamstring injury. With him out of commission, it will be Junior Firpo’s time to step up.

On the chalkboard

Injuries have been a rather common theme in Blaugrana’s ongoing 2019/20 season. After all, they had to wait until their Champions League opener to give Lionel Messi his first appearance of the season, and they’re still waiting for the return of Ousmane Dembele, who only featured in the curtain-raiser at the very beginning of the campaign.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

And now, Alba has joined his sidelined teammates as the newest face on the injury list. But luckily, not all is dark and gloomy. Firpo has the ability to replace the Spaniard, having arrived from Real Betis during the summer.

A worthy substitute

Replacing someone of Alba’s status at Barcelona is definitely easier said than done.

After all, we’re talking about a player who has featured in a total of 305 games for the Catalans and managed to tally an excellent 16 goals and 57 assists. Needless to say, that latter one is a really sublime figure, especially considering that Alba is a defender first and foremost.

But Firpo is no slouch either. He had a real breakthrough season at Real Betis in 2018/19 and that was the campaign that essentially earned him his move to Camp Nou. That year, he recorded three goals and four assists in 24 games in La Liga, an exceptional return.

Firpo has only played a total of nine minutes this season and wasn’t even on the bench against Dortmund, but this injury just might force Valverde’s hand and give Firpo a chance he’s been craving.

From this point onward, everything rests on his shoulders. It is down to him to grasp the opportunity.

Newcastle fans slam Miguel Almiron’s showing against Leicester

[ad_pod ]

How will Newcastle recover after their awful showing against Leicester City?

Even though Isaac Hayden’s red card will potentially be used as an excuse for the terrible 5-0 defeat by the Foxes – in all fairness, the former Arsenal man can have no complaints – the Toon were far from good enough, and Steve Bruce has a lot of work to do to prepare his team for a difficult couple of fixtures. The north-east outfit will now play Manchester United and Chelsea in successive matches.

The former Sunderland boss will be hoping that Miguel Almiron’s form improves dramatically. So far this season, the Paraguay international has failed to register a single goal or assist. That follows on from last term, when he was also unable to open his goal contribution account.

Despite there being plenty of optimism when he joined the club from Atlanta United in January, the fans don’t seem too happy with him at the moment, and they slammed his display at the King Power Stadium.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Derby’s Scott Malone jokes on Twitter after Goal of the Month nomination

Derby County haven’t been in the best of form as of late.Indeed, the Rams sit 16th in the Championship table, and they’ve won just one of their last nine league matches.Watch Derby County Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Perhaps nothing signifies the East Midlands side’s woes more than their nominations for the club’s latest Goal of the Month award.

The compilation of the club’s best goals from September shows just how poor they were during that month, as a majority of these strikes belong nowhere near a Goal of the Month competition.

Scott Malone’s strike is a particularly low point in the award nominations, but luckily the left-back sees the funny side as he joked about being nominated.

Malone called his strike as a goalmouth scramble, and that’s quite a fitting description.

We’re sure the Pride Park faithful hope they see a few more eye-catching strikes next month, as this Goal of the Month award shortlist was truly woeful.

Football FanCast correspondents: 10 of the biggest weekend talking points

[long_read]

The conclusion of Monday night’s thoroughly underwhelming yet incredibly revealing fixture wrapped up another weekend of football.

From the Madrid derby to Charlton’s defiant victory over Leeds United, Football FanCast have had their eyes firmly gripped to the action across England and La Liga.

The team of regional correspondents at FFC have been busy dissecting the themes to emerge during the weekend fixtures, and they’ve provided a brief insight into the talking points below…

[snack_break title=”Silky Saka reveals top dog demise”]

Pathetic fallacy was in full swing on Monday night as the relentless rain that has become synonymous with the city of Manchester pelted down at Old Trafford.

The drenched pairing of Unai Emery and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched on while their respective teams scrapped, slid and scurried around in a desperate bid to establish anything remotely resembling genuine control of the game.

But both sides were frantic and lacked composure from back to front. Perhaps the only shining light to emerge from proceedings was 18-year-old Bukayo Saka, who was enterprising and fearless in his endeavour to unsettle Man United’s defensive unit.

That he was the only player – with the notable exception of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – to take it upon himself to inject any quality into the game spoke volumes about how deep both sides have plummeted.

Two squashed behemoths who have long been considered top dogs in the Premier League were reduced to nothing more than top-six contenders at the very best, leaving fans of both clubs with a dejected outlook of what the future may hold.

Saka could well be in the star in the making, but both Arsenal and United will need more than a handful of outstanding teenagers to put them on a playing field close to pace-setters Manchester City and Liverpool.

Jack Saville – Assistant Editor

[snack_break title=”Magical Mahrez”]

Everton away has always been a notoriously difficult fixture in the Premier League. Goodison Park is home to a set of passionate supporters who can lift the roof off the place when they have something to shout about.

And on Saturday, their was slim hope that they could secure an impressive result against the champions. Having seen table-toppers Liverpool scrape a 1-0 win at Sheffield United earlier in the afternoon to extend the gap to eight points, Manchester City desperately needed a win. Enter stage left, Riyad Mahrez.

With less than 20 minutes remaining, and the scores locked level at 1-1, the Algerian curled home a sumptuous free-kick to restore City’s lead and hand Pep Guardiola’s side the initiative. Last season, the former Leicester star managed just 14 starts in the Premier League, and was playing second-fiddle to the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

But with the latter now injured, Mahrez appears to be embracing the responsibility of being one of the Citizens’ leading lights. And boy do they need him.

[snack_break title=”Set-piece horrors for Bielsa”]

Leeds suffered their first away defeat this season after previously looking unbeatable on the road. Coming up against a Charlton side without Lyle Taylor, it may have been a surprise to see the Addicks scrape over the line but it was courtesy of yet more catastrophic defending from a set-piece for the west Yorkshire side.

Conceding from dead-ball scenarios are following the Whites around like a bad smell at the moment. Of the five goals Marcelo Bielsa’s men have conceded in the Championship, three of them have been from those types of situations. Losing Pontus Jansson has been a blow in this regard and that’s regardless of how well the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month Ben White is performing.

If Leeds want to get promoted they’ll have to cut out this aspect of their game.

Matt Dawson – Leeds correspondent

[snack_break title=”Charlton’s big statement”]

Charlton managed to get back to winning ways with an eye-catching result against promotion hopefuls Leeds on Saturday, a match that saw the Addicks’ woes without Lyle Taylor ease up slightly.

Macauley Bonne, a summer signing from Leyton Orient, netted his first goal for the club after a somewhat fortuitous moment from a personal aspect – Tom Lockyer’s effort bobbled around in the area before going in off Bonne.

The 23-year-old was making his first Championship start of the season – having had to bide his time behind Tomer Hemed, who is yet to score in four appearances and Chuks Aneke, who has just one in seven – and managed to better their recent efforts by finding the net.

Taylor is the club’s talisman and is also not an easy man to replace, but Bonne’s showing should give supporters some encouragement.

Billy Meyers – South London and South Coast correspondent

[snack_break title=”Villa fail to consolidate when on top”]

Aston Villa suffered yet again this weekend. It is the third time this season that they have thrown away a match when leading – the other two coming against Tottenham Hotspur, who won with a late flurry of goals, and against Arsenal, who had ten men for a good 50 minutes.

It’s hard to put a finger on exactly where it has gone wrong this season, but a lack of clear depth in their attack seems to one focal point having scored just seven goals before Saturday’s match. Their club-record signing Wesley failed to even register a shot…

Some may be quick to blame VAR after they chalked off another goal, but the problem is that of Dean Smith’s rather than technology. He signed 12 new players for approximately £144.5m – he deserves time but he should rightly be questioned after just one win this season.

Lewis Blain – Midlands correspondent

[snack_break title=”Flying Baggies”]

The Baggies put the rest of the Championship on notice ahead of a top-of-table clash with Leeds United on Tuesday night.

Slaven Bilic’s boys made it a ninth straight game without defeat, which in turn saw them rise to the league’s summit by the end of play on Saturday.

Surprisingly, their 2-0 victory over QPR was their first clean sheet of the season and that will be something they’ll be looking to build upon as Sir Alex Ferguson once said: ‘attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.’

The scary prospect is that the defence have only just managed that accolade for the first time while the formerly prolific Championship striker Charlie Austin is yet to bag his first league goal – they should only get better from here.

[snack_break title="Tottenham's rueful summer sale"]

Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sell Kieran Trippier looked to have been somewhat vindicated following Serge Aurier’s brilliant display against Crystal Palace at the beginning of September, in which he assisted one and saw another of his crosses diverted into his own net by Patrick van Aanholt.

It is unclear whether Spurs wanted to keep the Ivory Coast international after he hinted that they did, or whether they had to do that because they couldn’t find a replacement for the former Paris Saint-Germain player before the summer window slammed shut.

Anyhow, his recklessness with two quick-fire first-half bookings against Southampton on Saturday could easily have cost his side, and just showed again how much of a liability the 26-year-old can be.

Meanwhile, England international Trippier continues to be praised for how he is adapting to life in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

Given the lack of quality in depth Tottenham have at right-back now, Mauricio Pochettino may have peaked too soon by moving the 29-year-old on in the summer.

James Beavis – Editor

[snack_break title=”Matip is here to stay”]

The Joe Gomez vs Joel Matip debate raged all summer, as Liverpool fans found it almost impossible to decide which player they would rather have partnering Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez stole the show at the beginning of last season, but lost his place after picking up an injury at Burnley, with Matip proving undroppable in the run to the Champions League final.

This weekend’s win at Bramall Lane however felt like a true statement performance from the Cameroonian, following on from his man of the match display at Stamford Bridge last week.

In a game where the Reds were struggling to create, the 28 year-old shouldered the responsibility and forced the issue, carrying the ball forward and searching for incisive passes to the front three, ignoring the easier options that would simply recycle possession and make life easy for Sheffield United.

It’s one thing to be defensively sound in a difficult atmosphere, but Matip looks confident, assured and now the unquestionable first-choice alongside van Dijk.

[snack_break title=”Bore draw in Madrid derby”]

While the week before the underdogs had their time in the sun, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have taken the spotlight now. Of course, the main event of the weekend was held in the capital as Diego Simeone’s men welcomed Zinedine Zidane’s troops to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Even though the game had its moments, the night ended in a goalless draw and the giants sharing the spoils of war. Real Madrid thus retain their top spot in La Liga and have put their third consecutive clean sheet in the books. But that draw also benefited Barcelona, in particular.

After weeks of trying and failing, the Catalans finally recorded a clean sheet of their own and managed to tally a victory on the road for the first time this season.

And with both of their other direct rivals dropping points in the Madrid derby, Blaugrana are knocking on the upper table’s doors quite loudly.

Domagoj Kostanjsak – La Liga correspondent

[snack_break title=”Penalty fiasco swiftly resolved”]

Chelsea finally grabbed their first home league win and first clean sheet of the season against Brighton on Saturday.

It was exactly what Frank Lampard and his players needed. After a mixed start to the campaign, the Blues finally seem to be settling, and they have now won their past two matches in all competitions.

Not only that, but Lampard handled the penalty situation at the club particularly well in another boost for his young career. It had appeared that Ross Barkley was the team’s first-choice spot-kick taker, even despite his penalty miss against Valencia, but following Jorginho’s strike from 12 yards against the Seagulls, the former Derby County boss confirmed that the Italy international will now take the responsibility.

Lampard has sorted the situation out with the minimum bother or drama, and he has ended up taking the best decision for his team. It is proof of his credentials, and shows that he is able to manage a potentially tricky situation very easily. It puts Chelsea in good stead for the rest of what will likely be a gruelling campaign.

Manchester United would sack their manager if it wasn’t Solskjaer, pundits claim

With an alarming array of reds and yellows and barely any greens, Manchester United’s form guide makes for very, very poor viewing. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the mesmerising flurry of form experienced by the 20-time champions of England when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was first appointed caretaker manager in December was more a result of relieving the crushing weight of Jose Mourinho’s relentless negativity than it was the former Molde manager’s tactical knowhow.Under Solskjaer, United have suffered their worst start to a season in over 30 years and are currently 12th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone. They have not won away from Old Trafford in domestic competition since February and have failed to score more than one goal in any game since the opening day of the season, and with last term’s staunchest defenders Liverpool as their next game, we don’t see their dreadful record improving anytime soon.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Since being appointed on a permanent basis, Solskjaer has registered a win percentage of just 24 per cent – which breaks down into five wins, seven draws and nine losses. United have also conceded 27 goals in that time and scored just 18 themselves. Boring and ineffective doesn’t quite cut it.

However, as Ed Woodward announces that patience is required as the club try to recapture their former glory, which seems a very long way off, there’s little evidence to suggest that the board will be taking the same course of action we’d typically expect when any manager underperforms. But is this right? Can we really expect a repeat of Sir Alex Ferguson’s iconic turnaround?

England fans savage Danny Rose after horror showing against the Czech Republic

Having got the nod over Leicester’s Ben Chilwell to start at left-back against the Czech Republic on Friday night, Danny Rose didn’t exactly reward Gareth Southgate’s faith in him with his performance.

The Tottenham man struggled to cope with the home side’s relentless attacks, and was caught out of position for the decisive goal late in the second-half.

By the end of the game, the 29-year-old had lost possession 15 times (the joint-second highest of any player on the pitch) and won just two out of the six ground duels he contested. As per SofaScore, his 6.1 match rating was the lowest of any England star who had started the game.

After seeing Rose’s shocking performance, England fans took to Twitter to voice their fury at the Spurs left-back.
