Aston Villa Could Unlock Buendia By Signing £40m Speedster

Aston Villa could continue their strong feat in the transfer window with a move for Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson.

The Villans have been linked to the playmaker for some time, however, Unai Emery and Monchi could finally secure the talent on the back of three impressive deals.

Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby have already made the switch to Villa Park, with more activity anticipated this summer.

Who wants to buy Brennan Johnson?

As reported by the Daily Mail earlier this month, both Villa and Brentford have an eye on the Welshman, who is valued at around £40m by Forest.

The 22-year-old has been of interest to the Midlands side since May, when FootballTransfers named the Villans as a potential suitor for him in the summer.

The Garibaldi have remained reluctant to sell their star man, however as per the Daily Mail’s report, the club may be forced to accept an offer to ease Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

How good is Brennan Johnson?

Rising through the academy at the City Ground, the Nottingham-born gem has found his feet in recent years, cementing himself as one of the club’s key players.

A loan spell at Lincoln City in the 2020/21 season brought the youngster's talent to light, where he scored ten goals and assisted 12 in 40 League One appearances.

From there, the intricate forward hasn’t looked back, playing a pivotal role in Forest’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022, where he scored 16 goals and registered nine assists, as well as scoring twice in the play-offs, via Transfermarkt.

Johnson has truly worked his way through the ranks, with his form failing to slow down in the top tier, where he netted eight goals for Steve Cooper’s side in his debut term in the Premier League.

While the Welshman's form comes as a thing to be celebrated by Forest, it’s also gathered the type of attention that the club feared, with fellow side’s hoping to pry the 22-year-old away from Nottingham.

Brennan Johnson

For Villa, Johnson could become a valued member of Emery’s squad, adding individual brilliance and providing a fresh outlet for others in the side.

Like the Wales international, Emiliano Buendia shone in the Championship, however, has struggled to transfer his form to the Premier League.

Lauded as “unbelievable” by national team manager Robert Page, the Villa target could prove to be the key to unlocking the Argentine’s past form in the Midlands, through his lively nature in attack.

The 26-year-old secured 17 assists in the Championship before making the switch to Villa Park, highlighting just how efficient he can be as a playmaker.

Clocking the second-fastest top speed in the league last season at 36.70 km/h, via OptaJoe, Johnson could be the desired presence in the side to give Buendia a deadly outlet to target in the final third.

In the 2020/21 Championship campaign, the former Norwich sensation averaged 3.31 key passes and 0.41 through balls per 90, via FBref, highlighting just how deadly he could be if given a pace-ridden spark like Johnson to release.

Emery could add a host of threats to his front line by equipping the Forest star in his side, in a move that could benefit the club on multiple dimensions.

Man Utd Make Bid For £30m "Monster" Eriksen Replacement

Manchester United could well be set to continue their summer spending spree after striking a deal for Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, with the towering Dane potentially set to be followed to Old Trafford by fellow Serie A star, Sofyan Amrabat.

What's the latest on Amrabat to Man United?

According to reports in Italy, the Red Devils are believed to have already lodged a bid for the Fiorentina maestro, with the 26-year-old potentially set to be up for grabs with just a year left to run on his current deal.

As per prior speculation, the former Club Brugge ace – who previously worked under Erik ten Hag at FC Utrecht – may have already reached an agreement with regard to personal terms with the Premier League side, with a transfer fee of roughly £30m having also been mooted.

Read the latest Manchester United transfer news HERE…

Despite United having already splashed out £55m in order to sign their new number seven, Mason Mount from rivals Chelsea, the club are seemingly set to further bolster their midfield ranks with the pursuit of the Moroccan international.

Who could Amrabat replace at Man United?

Various reports have indicated that Ten Hag and co are set to move for the 6 foot 1 ace once the likes of Fred and Donny van de Beek have been shipped off to pastures new, with the former Ajax boss needing to make space in his midfield department.

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Those two outgoing figures may not be the only first-team assets to suffer as a result of Amrabat's arrival, however, with the Netherlands-born gem's role as something of a deep-lying playmaker potentially set to spell bad news for Christian Eriksen at the Theatre of Dreams.

The experienced Dane enjoyed a promising debut campaign in Manchester after signing on a free transfer last summer, racking up ten assists in 44 appearances in all competitions, having slotted in nicely alongside Casemiro at the base of the midfield.

Despite that strong impact, the 31-year-old did appear somewhat off the pace after returning from injury in April, with Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst notably writing that the former Tottenham Hotspur man 'could barely keep up' when faced with Manchester City's midfield in the FA Cup final.

Those shortcomings have seemingly continued in pre-season with Luckhurst again writing that Eriksen 'did not have the sharpest of games' in the recent defeat to Real Madrid, with younger, fresher legs, like Amrabat, potentially needed.

Lauded as a "monster" by journalist Carlo Garganese amid his form at last year's World Cup, the latter man is able to provide a greater defensive presence than that of the current United ace, having averaged two tackles and interceptions per game in 29 Serie A outings last term, while Eriksen averaged just 1.2 in that regard from 28 Premier League appearances.

Amrabat's quality and composure on the ball can also be seen by the fact that he ranks in the top 5% among his European peers for pass completion and in the top 8% for progressive passes, indicating that he regularly looks to set up his attack-minded teammates.

While Eriksen is only just behind in that latter metric as he ranks in the top 9% for progressive passes, the one-time Brentford maestro only ranks in the bottom 41% for pass completion, having proven more of a liability on the ball.

That should indicate that if Ten Hag is to bring in another familiar face in the form of Amrabat, then Eriksen could well find himself quickly shunted down the pecking order.

Atapattu leads Diamonds past Lightning

Yorkshire Diamonds kept alive their hopes of qualifying for Finals Day in the Kia Super League with a 17-run victory over Loughborough Lightning

ECB Reporters Network18-Aug-2017Yorkshire Diamonds kept alive their hopes of qualifying for Finals Day in the Kia Super League with a 17-run victory over Loughborough Lightning at the Hazlegrave Ground in a match reduced to 13 overs a side after a delayed start. It spelled the end of the road for Lightning, who have lost all three of their matches in the round-robin phase of the women’s twenty20 competition. For the second time this week, one big innings by an international opponent gave Lightning too much to chase. After New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates put Southern Vipers out of their reach with a brilliant 119 not out in Derby on Tuesday, it was the Sri Lankan Chamari Atapattu who enabled Diamonds to set them a challenge that was just beyond them.Lightning skipper Georgia Elwiss hit 41 off 28 balls in reply and a partnership of 48 for the fifth wicket with Sonia Odedra kept the home side in with an outside chance. But a target of 111 to win proved too much in the end as Atapattu followed her match-winning innings with 2 for 11 off her three overs, crucially conceded just two singles in the penultimate over of the match, in which she also dismissed Elwiss.Atapattu’s 66 not out off 40 deliveries helped Diamonds to 110 for 5 in their 13 overs after heavy rain and hail had delayed the start by almost an hour and a half. The left-hander, whose 178 not out against Australia was one of the highlights of the Women’s World Cup, gave one chance on 47 when she was put down on the boundary by Beth Langston off Ellyse Perry’s bowling but otherwise batted superbly, hitting nine fours and two sixes, the second of them a wonderfully timed flick over the leg side off the medium pace of Elwiss. The only real blot on the innings was a horrible misjudgement when, needing one to reach 50, she went for a single off a calculated push into the off-side off Kristen Beams but gave partner Katherine Brunt no chance of completing the run.Brunt, who struck two significant blows with the ball when she dismissed both opener Amy Jones and Australian allrounder Perry in single figures, was going well at the time with 21 off just 10 deliveries.

Leeds: 49ers Could Avenge Roca Deal By Signing "Commanding" £10m Titan

Leeds United's slow start to the summer transfer window is now starting to gain steam after the 49ers assumed full ownership of the club, and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel has been linked with a move to Elland Road despite the club's recent relegation from the Premier League.

How much would Alexander Nubel cost?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that the Whites "have explored" the conditions of a transfer for Nubel as an alternative to Newcastle United's Karl Darlow.

Jacobs said:

"I also think they'll look for a goalkeeper, and Nubel has been the one that Leeds have explored from Bayern Munich.

“Darlow has been another player on the radar, but I think Nubel will be available for under £10m. And Leeds could be in the mix for that particular player.”

A previous report from German outlet Sport BILD claims that Leeds boss Daniel Farke is hoping to sign his compatriot for around £8m, and for a 26-year-old shot-stopper with experience at one of Europe's most prestigious outfits and with a successful loan stint at French side Monaco recently completed, it could be a move worth making.

Who is Alexander Nubel?

This isn't the first time Leeds have pursued a Bayern Munich player of late, with the Championship side signing central midfielder Marc Roca from the German champions for an initial £10m last summer.

The dynamic Spaniard was hailed as a "key" signing by pundit Alan Hutton upon his arrival from the Bundesliga, but failed to live up to the hype and has now been loaned out to Real Betis after a timid term in West Yorkshire.

While the 26-year-old did demonstrate his abilities by forging 2.1 tackles per game, as per Sofascore, his ball-playing prowess was not up to scratch and would not suit the fluid possession-based style of Farke, evidenced by his bottom 14% ranking for pass completion compared to midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year, via FBref.

Perhaps certain segments of the Leeds support will fear a similar outcome should Nubel be deemed the man to replace under-fire Illan Meslier – who is believed to be transfer-listed after flattering to deceive last season – but there is every indication that the 6 foot 4 colossus would be a veritable machine for the English outfit.

“He is a very good goalkeeper with a [Manuel] Neuer vibe about him," claimed European football expert Kevin Hatchard of the then Schalke star, speaking to talkSPORT in 2019 following links to Tottenham Hotspur.

alexander-nubel-transfer-gossip-leeds-united-bayern-munich-farke-tyler-adams

“He’s good with his feet, commanding, and he’s got a bit of arrogance about him, which I don’t think is a terrible thing.”

Since then, Nubel signed for Bayern on a free transfer, making just four appearances before joining Monaco on a two-year loan deal in 2021, where he has since forged 97 displays.

Once hailed as an "incredibly talented goalkeeper, with the world at his feet" by Germany's U21 coach Klaus Thomforde, Nubel saved 140 shots in Ligue 1 last term while conceding 58 strikes; Meslier, comparatively, shipped 67 goals and made just 94 saves.

Leeds will be determined to ensure their stint back in England's second tier is nothing more than a sojourn from the top-flight, and by strengthening the defensive department with a signing of Nubel's ilk, this could be achieved to emphatic success.

Lancashire fail to adjust to four-day demands

1:14

County Championship round-up: Yorkshire crumble against Essex

Nothing if not courteous, Lancashire’s batsmen left it to each other to score runs on the first day of this game; nothing, if not careless, most of the recipients turned down their invitations.Ryan McLaren’s team thus surrendered the opportunity afforded them by winning the toss and having first use of a sanded pitch. Hampshire’s bowlers, whether seam, swing or spin, seized their own opportunities gleefully and Lancashire’s total of 149 looked insufficient well before James Vince made 40 off 46 balls in the evening sunlight. But if Vince’s cover drives and glides are pleasing on the eye, his batting does not always suggest permanence and Hampshire’s No 4 perished an hour before the close when he skied a pull off Kyle Jarvis to Stephen Parry at midwicket. Indeed, Vince was one of five batsmen removed by Lancashire’s bowlers in a long evening session at the end of which the home side’s deficit was only two runs.Everyone was left to reflect on a day in which a total of eight top-five batsmen had reached double figures but only two had made more than 30, none passing 50. A rather short game is thus in prospect and perhaps a close one but hardly a contest which suggests that four-day batting is flourishing at present.Such an assessment probably takes insufficient account of a Rose Bowl pitch which is already offering bounce and turn and it certainly pays miserly credit to the bowlers on each side.Yet perhaps the batsmen’s problems are also a consequence of the fact that they have played no first-class cricket over the past month. Some have played only T20 and Liam Livingstone’s heave across the line to Kyle Abbott just after lunch certainly seemed more like one of the desperate remedies required by the short form. But Livingstone was by no means the only occupant of Glen Chapple’s crowded naughty step; Dane Vilas’s wild cut to a ball from Ian Holland and Jos Buttler’s loose push to a delivery from Fidel Edwards which snaked through the gate were also out of keeping with the requirements of the day. Indeed they were lowlights of a long period either side of lunch in which Lancashire lost all their wickets for 110 runs. But the impact of T20’s placement in the current schedule is wider than that; it should be noted that 53 wickets fell on the opening day of the three current Division One games. Helpful pitches and fine bowling may explain some of them but the impact of spending a month manufacturing weird but effective shots to good balls may also have a part to play. Perhaps the proper role for the glorious entertainment that T20 often has yet to be found.Haseeb Hameed found no release from an unproductive season•Getty Images

For some the problem is of a rather different nature. Deprived of long-form first-class cricket and deemed surplus to requirements in the T20 stuff, some Lancashire and Hampshire batsmen have played second team or Premier League cricket; others may even have been reduced to asking their dads to bowl at them in the back garden but since this is how Haseeb Hameed learned the lessons that helped make him a Test batsman in the first place, perhaps no one should complain. It is rarely wise to mess with Boltonian legends. It was noticeable, however, that the most tranquil and productive period in Lancashire’s innings was the first hour of the morning when Hameed and Alex Davies, neither of whom have played T20, were adding 39 runs in 14.2 overs. That partnership ended when Hameed, having scored 6 off 39 balls, drove at a wide outswinger from Edwards and gave a waist-high catch to Jimmy Adams at second slip. The England opener has yet to rediscover the blissful rhythms of Rajkot and Mohali. The selectors will have to carry on watching him hopefully for a while yet.The similarly redoubtable Davies went on to make 36 before he was beaten by a fine ball from Liam Dawson and edged a catch to Sean Ervine at slip. The remainder of Lancashire’s innings suggested little but impermanence. Shiv Chanderpaul, the one batsman for whom adhesion is an article of faith, was run out by Buttler when called for a sharp single to Mason Crane at backward point.Lancashire then lost their last five wickets in 11 overs and their last three in eight balls. By mid-afternoon skipper Steven Croft may have been regretting his decision to drop himself for this game.Crane took three of the last five wickets but just as valuable to Hampshire’s effort was Dawson, who bowled 17 accurate, probing overs either side of lunch at a cost of only 42 runs. He, as much as Abbott, Edwards or Gareth Berg, deserved the applause of the home supporters in the Rod Bransgrove pavilion.Hampshire delight was quelled a little by the loss of both Jimmy Adams and Lewis McManus to Lancashire’s new ball bowlers inside the first nine overs of the home side’s innings. But Vince revived their spirits and Dawson – not needed by England but invaluable to his county – was still there to steady the ship after George Bailey had been caught at slip off Matt Parkinson for 22. It is advantage Hampshire but not by much.

South Africa take control after Root dismissal sparks collapse

Faf du Plessis had cause to anticipate a satisfying return to the Test captaincy as South Africa took a potentially decisive first-innings lead of 130

The Report by David Hopps15-Jul-2017

Faf du Plessis had cause to anticipate a satisfying return to the Test captaincy as South Africa took a potentially decisive first-innings lead of 130 midway into the final session of the second day of the second Investec Test at Trent Bridge. The birth of a son followed by the prospect of a Test victory to square the series: personal delight and professional satisfaction in quick succession.South Africa’s lead at the close of the second day was 205, for the loss of Heino Kuhn, unpicked by James Anderson at second slip. England do have the consolation of a sunny forecast for the fourth day, but historically Trent Bridge surfaces deteriorate more than average in this country so it is hard to conceive of an escape route. They have already lost one review, failing in a cockeyed attempt to win an lbw decision against Kuhn: a long way down the pitch, a new ball, impact high on the pad: there was not much to like. Anderson therefore joined Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad in failed reviews. At least Joe Root is spreading his largesse to all, but he has some reflecting to do.The panache of Root, a young captain eager to assert himself, provided England’s main sustenance as they mustered only 205 in awkward batting conditions, dismissed in only 51.5 overs as they trusted to enterprise and came up short. Only late in the innings could England be described as reckless, but at no point did they deserve to be termed resilient.Root has slipped down to No 4 this summer in his first summer as captain, but wherever he bats, he bears an onerous responsibility. His elegance, at least, made light of the challenge posed by South Africa’s attack as he required only 76 balls for his 78. He played with authority from the outset, before a misjudgement against Morne Morkel saw him edge to the wicketkeeper. The rest of England’s first innings had less to commend it as South Africa held sway on a pitch that had quickened since the opening day and with plentiful swing and seam on offer under overcast skies. Root’s Yorkshire team-mates Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow sought a response. But the openers failed and Root’s dismissal began a sequence in which the last seven wickets evaporated for 62 in 22.4 overs. Still, at least it ensured regular activity on a day when the over-rate was a pitiful 12.5 an hour.Morkel and Vernon Philander, South Africa’s new-ball pair, posed most of the threat and Morkel, in particular, was unfortunate to finish with only two wickets on a day when he was always an imposing figure. When they were obliged to turn to the left-arm spin of Keshav Maharaj, with a holding operation in mind, he came up trumps with the wickets of Stokes, for nought, and Bairstow shortly before tea. Chris Morris, lightly used after a short initial spell – short in both senses of the word – adorned his figures with three late wickets.Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings were rounded up in only 4.1 overs before lunch as it soon became apparent that South Africa’s 335 offered them the chance of a sizeable first-innings advantage. It took a review to remove Cook, with South Africa searching, initially at least, for an lbw as an inswinger from Philander flew off the pad to the wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. That mode of dismissal was ruled out by an inside nick, only for Cook to be dismissed courtesy of the keeper’s catch.Jennings fell to the next delivery, this time from Morkel, a peach of a ball from around the wicket which bounced and left the Durham left-hander. He had no cause to berate himself about getting out to that. The rest of the morning was a story of South African ill-discipline as Root and Ballance included 14 boundaries in an 83-run partnership spanning, in all, only 84 balls. Root produced some princely off-sides drives from the outset and had another Test fifty to his name by the interval. Ballance, who got off the mark with a fortunate edge wide of gully off Philander, offering hunched support, sitting deep in his crease with the suspicious air of a mole peering out of a mole hill.South Africa’s challenge was much more focused throughout the afternoon, although their back-up seamers carried limited potency before Morris’ late intervention. They achieved this, lest we forget, without Kagiso Rabada.Ballance, very much Root’s pick, has laboured to prove his worth. Once again, he got a start but failed to prosper. He perished in the second over after lunch, bowled by Philander as he deflected the ball loosely onto his pads. Bairstow, who lacked Root’s certainty, was more of a bellwether. He reached 45, but survived two hairy moments against Morkel on the way, the ball twice flying perilously close to his stumps off a play-and-miss that escaped for four byes and an inside edge. Another edge spared him when South Africa reviewed a refused lbw appeal by Philander.Maharaj then took a hand. Stokes fell for a 12-ball duck, his inside edge onto his pads, finally clutched at the second attempt, off his shoulder, by de Kock as he changed direction. There was a suspicion of helmet involved, which would have spared him, but after innumerable replays he was sent on his way.Maharaj also found a hint of turn to bowl Bairstow, bringing South Africa their fourth wicket in a productive session.England’s problems intensified after tea as three wickets fell within eight balls. Moeen Ali fell tamely to a pre-conceived plan, flapping a full ball from Morris out of the footholes to du Plessis at point. Broad received the cheers awarded to a local boy, but his innings are always hair-raising affairs and this one did not make it past the first ball as South Africa successfully reviewed Morris’ lbw appeal.Liam Dawson had managed to escape a fourth successive Test duck – Bob Holland, Ajit Agarkar and Mohammad Asif hold the record with five – before overturning a caught behind decision against Morris, replays showing the ball had missed the bat by a distance. He did not make much use of his let-off, as he top-edged Maharaj to square leg.England’s increasingly tame affair came to a conclusion when Mark Wood deflected a rearing delivery from Morris to second slip.Earlier, James Anderson had demolished South Africa’s tail in a spell of 4 for 4 in only 20 deliveries to finish with 5 for 72, taking five in an innings for the 22nd time in his Test career.England had carped about the second new ball on the previous evening, and they managed to negotiate an immediate change on the second morning. The skies were grey, the floodlights were on and Anderson had a spring in his step, his 34 years falling off him with every delivery. The best of his wickets was Maharaj, for nought, outwitted by the inswinger/outswinger routine, his edge inviting Root to hold a flamboyant catch at second slip. He had provided a brief masterclass, but South Africa were to make good use of their own opportunity.

Arsenal: Ronald Araujo Recklessly Wipes Out Gabriel Jesus

It’s almost as if managers have forgotten to give their defenders the pre-season talk about avoiding reckless challenges, because, after all, it is only a friendly game. We’ve seen Lisandro Martinez go flying into poor challenges twice now. The first time was at Bukayo Saka’s expense, who was lucky to avoid injury as Arsenal were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United. The second time then came against Real Madrid, as Jude Bellingham was recklessly taken out, sparking the midfielder’s fume. Now, it seems as though Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has caught the recklessness bug, leaving no prisoners against Arsenal, as he wiped out Gabriel Jesus in a needless challenge. The forward fortunately managed to avoid injury, but there’s no doubt that he was left unpleased, with nothing really riding on the game to warrant such aggression from the Barca man.

Gabriel Jesus wiped out by Ronald Araujo

In Araujo’s defence, the ball was there to be won. It just didn’t need to be won with a dangerously high sliding challenge, which Jesus upwards in a way we didn’t even know was possible.

Jesus immediately looked towards the referee, feeling rightly aggrieved by the challenge, as Araujo strolled off as if he had just committed the tackle of the season.

The challenge summed up a frantic affair, as Arsenal ran out 5-3 winners. And after the match, Xavi ironically complained (via Tribuna) “Arsenal’s intensity wasn’t normal. Too many fouls for a friendly game.”

The Gunners initially found themselves a goal down, courtesy of Robert Lewandowski, before Bukayo Saka equalised.

It was then the turn of Raphinha Kai Havertz to get on the scoresheet, making it 2-2.

Arsenal ran away with it in the second half, however, with a Leandro Trossard brace handing them a 4-2 lead. Mikel Arteta’s side were forced to refocus by Ferran Torres’ late goal, but Fabio Vieira soon sealed the 5-3 victory.

How have Arsenal performed in pre-season?

Arsenal have impressed at times during pre-season, enjoying victories over MLS All-Stars and Barcelona, whilst also drawing against FC Nurnberg in their first pre-season game.

Arteta will be disappointed with his side’s 2-0 defeat against Premier League rivals Manchester United, but is unlikely to look too much into what was ultimately a pre-season game, and only that.

Summer signing Havertz has shown glimpses of what he is capable of this summer, too, scoring twice, including most recently against Barcelona.

Speaking after scoring his first Arsenal goal, against MLS All-Stars, Havertz told Sky Sports, via The Metro: “I think he was giving me this message [of support] from the first second when I spoke to him.

“The first time, I felt the support straight away. And I think this is very important for me as a player. He just gives the trust to me and I hopefully can give it back.”

The summer switch to North London could finally get the German going in the Premier League, after struggling to ever make a consistent impact at Chelsea.

The Gunners are certainly primed and ready to mount yet another title challenge in England’s top flight, perhaps going one better than last season by sealing the silverware in the coming year.

Ange Postecoglou Fumes Over Bayern Munich ‘Kane 9’ Shirt

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been left far from impressed after a German reporter brought a Bayern Munich number nine Harry Kane shirt to his press conference.

Is Harry Kane joining Bayern Munich?

According to the latest report in The Times, the Bundesliga giants are currently preparing a third bid for the Spurs striker.

Bayern have already had two bids rejected but say they are confident the England captain, who turns 30 next week, wants to join, and has only one year left on his contract.

New manager Postecoglou has already gone on the record about how this current situation of uncertainty over his star player has made him uneasy.

He recently told the press: “Fair to say I am not relaxed about it. It’s not something where you go: “Ah, well, you know if it does or doesn’t happen.” I mean he’s a very important part of this football club, not just the team, but the football club. He’s such a massive figure.

“And, whilst my focus isn’t on it on a daily basis because I’ve got other things I need to do, I know that every time I’m talking, or whenever Harry is going to talk, that’s the first question you are going to get. So, you’ve got to deal with it.”

He added: “For everyone concerned, we don’t want to be doing it for too long. I don’t think that’s good for anyone. I don’t think it’s good for Harry, I don’t think it’s good for the club, because as laser-focused as we want to be, you end up sort of repeating yourself along the way.”

Well, with that in mind, the Australian really would not have appreciated a recent gesture made by a reporter turning up at his press conference all the way from Germany.

Journalist Charlie Eccleshare was on site to report what happened, Tweeting: “A German reporter has brought a Bayern shirt with ‘Kane 9’ on the back and showed it to Postecoglou during the press conference.

“Fair to say he was not impressed. ‘You flew all the way for that… got yourself a laugh’.”

Journalist Chris Wheatley later shared an image of Bild reporter Max Schrader too.

What’s the latest Spurs transfer news?

Of course, with Kane’s future up in the air, it remains to be seen if the club will need to go into the market at some stage and spend big on a striker.

Regardless of that, while speaking in the same most recent press conference, Postecoglou did suggest that more business could be happening.

He told the press (via football.london): “We’re working with the players we’ve got at the moment and I’m really happy with the way they are all working hard. But we’ve obviously still got time in the transfer window and we’ll still looking to do some business.”

So far, the most notable arrivals have been James Maddison, Manor Solomon, and new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. While Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have turned initial loans into permanent transfers.

It will be interesting to see if the Premier League outfit spend any more in the near future, or if they will wait to see what happens with Kane before potentially dipping back into the market again.

Wolves: TalkSPORT reporter drops big Alex Scott transfer update

Wolverhampton Wanderers are 'likely' to be pipped by Bournemouth in their bid to land Bristol City playmaker Alex Scott, according to journalist Alex Crook.

Who could Alex Scott move to this summer?

Telegraph Sport have broke that Bournemouth have hijacked Wolves' interest in Bristol City midfielder Scott and are now in 'advanced talks' over a move that would see the Guernsey-born ace move to the South Coast for a fee in the region of £25 million.

Wolves have been rebuffed with two previous offers for Scott and now Bournemouth look to have taken advantage of their financial issues to steal a march on the Old Gold and land their number one transfer target.

Last term, Scott was a key player for Bristol City and registered two goals and five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

West Ham United and Inter Milan have also expressed admiration for Scott over the course of this window, though Bristol City are still believed to not be in a rush to sell the 19-year-old, who has two years left on his deal at Ashton Gate, according to The Daily Mail.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has sent a clear message to Scott's suitors in a recent interview with BBC Radio Bristol, stating: "As far as I am concerned, we've made our stance quite clear as a football club and that is for somebody to gain the opportunity to talk to him, we're talking about £25m. There have been reports of bids for £21m and stuff like that in various news outlets."

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Crook thinks that Bournemouth are more 'likely' to sign Scott this summer than Wolves due to the latter side being embroiled in issues with Financial Fair Play.

Crook stated: "“At the moment, they can't afford him. I think Bournemouth are looking at the price tag and thinking, ‘Do we want to go that high?’ Because they want £25m.

“I think Bournemouth and Wolves see him as more of a £18m-£20m player. I'm not even sure Wolves have got that. Lopetegui has been quite vocal about their financial issues. And when I last checked in, the vibe I got back was that they didn't have the funds to do the deals.

“So, I think Bournemouth are more likely, but again, there's haggling to do with Bristol City.”

What next for Wolverhampton Wanderers?

Wolves have been on a frustrating journey through the transfer window this summer and have announced just two arrivals in the form of Republic of Ireland defender Matt Doherty and goalkeeper Tom King on free transfers, as per Transfermarkt.

Football Insider indicated in July that the Old Gold were set to confirm the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi; however, things have gone a little quiet on that front.

West Ham'sAaron Cresswell

West Ham United left-back Aaron Cresswell looks like his prospective move to Wolves has been called off as neither party could come to an agreement on a fee for the Premier League veteran, as per The Daily Mail.

Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is on the radar of both Wolves and West Ham and could return to the English top-flight following a spell at Arsenal in the earlier portion of his career, according to The Sun.
