Everton Could Sign Their Next Richarlison For £26m

Everton are looking at concluding two transfers in the coming days with Sean Dyche, Farhad Moshiri and co seemingly busy as the market nears its conclusion in a few weeks' time.

Who do Everton want to sign?

Reports on Sunday afternoon suggest that Everton's interest in Leeds winger Jack Harrison is now 'very advanced'. That said, he is not the only forward on Dyche's radar after the season kicked off this weekend.

Indeed, according to Football Insider on Saturday, they are working on securing Portuguese attacker Beto on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, with talks advancing over the past few days.

The Toffees have been monitoring his situation all summer but were reluctant to meet his €30m (£26m) price tag, though an initial short-term contract could work in their favour.

Everton's Premier League campaign began with a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham this weekend, accentuating the need for offensive reinforcements despite the signings of Arnaut Danjuma and Youssef Chermiti.

Everton could repeat the signing of Richarlison by luring Beto to Goodison Park, with the Brazilian leaving the club for Tottenham Hotspur in a £60m deal last year but departing as one of the club's most distinguishable stars of recent memory.

How many goals did Richarlison score for Everton?

Arriving from Premier League rivals Watford in 2018 for £50m, the 26-year-old scored twice on his competitive debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers to kickstart a 53-goal haul across 152 outings while plying his trade on Merseyside, with former manager Carlo Ancelotti claiming he is "among the best forwards".

Standing at 6 foot, the 44-cap star – with 20 goals for Brazil – is not the tallest of forwards but utilises his aerial dominance superlatively, ranking among the top 7% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for aerial wins per 90, as per FBref.

Udinese's Beto in action.

Hailed as a "warrior" by former Spurs boss Antonio Conte, the £90k-per-week gem brings an imposing element to his game and this is something that Beto could replicate under Dyche's wing on Merseyside, with the 52-year-old's management style focussing heavily on aerial dominance and dogged determination.

How good is Beto?

Standing at 6 foot 4, Beto is a taller figure and has averaged 1.8 shots and 2.2 aerial wins across the duration of his career, as per WhoScored, but has hit double-digits across all four league campaigns of his career, including 22 goals across his two years in Serie A.

The 25-year-old also ranks among the top 20% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for successful take-ons, the top 10% for clearances and the top 25% for interceptions per 90, as per FBref, illustrating his Richarlison-like tenacity and relentlessness that could slot into Everton's system seamlessly.

He has been lauded for his "quality" and intelligence by journalist Josh Bunting, and his ten league goals and 1.8 shots per match last term, as per Sofascore, were not bettered by Everton forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Neal Maupay and Demarai Gray.

With journalist Sam Tighe also waxing lyrical over the ace's ability to "spook defenders", claiming that makes the opposition panic with his brutish presence and physicality, he could emulate Richarlison in his imperious former role at Goodison Park, and could perhaps finally restore some offensive verve to the Toffees' frontline.

Newcastle Could Make Move For "Dominant" £5.8k-p/w Star

Newcastle United are now tracking Red Bull Salzburg defender Oumar Solet, who has recently admitted he is excited by the prospect of playing in the Premier League, according to a report from The Daily Mail.

What's the latest Newcastle transfer news?

Eddie Howe is clearly still keen to bolster his backline, given that Newcastle have been linked with a number of new defenders in recent weeks, including Southampton's Tino Livramento, with a fresh swoop for the right-back now on the cards.

In terms of new centre-backs, the Magpies are running the rule over Blackburn Rovers' Ashley Phillips, with the £2m release clause in the 18-year-old's contract set to become active on Friday, however they are set to face competition for his signature from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Solet is now also emerging as a transfer target for Newcastle, but they are not the only Premier League club tracking the RB Salzburg defender, with Everton also in the mix for his signature.

A whole host of European clubs are said to be interested in the centre-back, including Inter Milan and Torino, but he has made it clear that a move to the Premier League is of particular interest to him, saying:

"I have a lot of ambitions, to be honest. I’m just on my way – for sure the Premier League excites me a lot,"

"I feel it’s a league that I can perform in really well and it can bring me to the top. It’s probably the best league in the would. I feel if I have the chance it’s going to help make me become the top player I want to be.

"That’s exactly what I need for the next step. I’m a challenger, a competitor, a winner. I have big ambitions in football and outside football. I want to be a really big player."

As such, the Magpies should be well-placed to win the race for the Frenchman, should their interest become more concrete over the next few weeks.

Who is Oumar Solet?

The 23-year-old defender initially made his breakthrough with French side Stade Lavallois, before making a move to Lyon, however he failed to hold down a consistent spot in the starting XI, making just four first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

Since then, however, the Melun-born ace has managed to cement his place as a vital player for RB Salzburg, making 80 appearances for the Austrian side, where he has predominantly featured in the centre of defence, although he can also play in defensive midfield.

FC Salzburg's Oumar Solet

At 6 foot 3, the former Lyon man is an imposing figure at the back, and he has been hailed as "dominant" by journalist Ph Ouggourini, who also claims he is an assured dribbler of the ball, who is capable of making assists.

The £5.8k-per-week defender is yet to prove himself in a major European league, but he has already made a total of nine appearances in the Champions League, and he could be a savvy signing for Newcastle.

Howe needs reinforcements for his backline, especially with European football on the line next season.

West Ham: Irons Make Move To Sign Marquee Striker

West Ham United are showing real ambition in their attempts to replace Gianluca Scamacca, with news coming to light on Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani.

Who will West Ham next?

Earlier this week, the Irons completed their first major signing of this summer, as Mexico international midfielder Edson Alvarez joined the club from Ajax.

David Moyes had to wait long, and even saw moves for the likes of Carlos Borges hijacked late on, but Alvarez's arrival comes as a wonderful bit of news.

The 25-year-old could make his debut against Bournemouth today as West Ham gear up for their opening game of the season, with Moyes expressing his joy at the capture of Alvarez.

“We’re really pleased to add Edson to our squad,” he said.

“The midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer – and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department. He’s an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date.

“We’re excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the club."

As we enter the crunch phase of this transfer window, attention will now turn to the signing of a striker, with Scamacca's departure to Atalanta coming as a real blow.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

Moyes needs a proven goalscorer to come in the Italian's stead, leading to them making a rather ambitious play for Paris-Saint Germain and Man United target Kolo Muani, who could cost as much as £85 million.

The Bundesliga striker, who enjoyed a dazzling campaign at Eintracht last term, has been subject to interest from all over Europe and we can now add West Ham to that growing list of admirers.

Kolo Muani, according to a report by 90min, has been subject to an approach from West Ham who have moved for the player by enquiring about his summer price tag.

Not much else is said on how the Hammers want to proceed, but it's clear they have their sights set quite high in their bid to sign a proven striker for Moyes.

Alongside the likes of Man United and PSG, it is also believed Bayern Munich had him on their radar before swooping for Harry Kane.

How good is Randal Kolo Muani?

Randal Kolo Muani

The France international forward hit 26 goal contributions in the German top flight alone over 2022/2023, bagging 15 goals and 11 assists (WhoScored).

His frightening form has alerted some of Europe's top clubs and West Ham are now no exception, though they will surely face stiff competition for his signature.

Felix Magath, speaking to French newspaper L'Equipe on Kolo Muani, called him both "amazing" and a "very clinical" striker in the final third.

"He's amazing," said former Eintracht and Bayern boss Magath (L'Equipe via Bundesliga).

"He's not only a strong dribbler, but he's very clinical in the final third. I love his mentality; he's always thinking about the team. That's obvious when you look at how many assists he's got this season."

He could be the perfect Scamacca replacement, but it will be tricky to get a move over the line if West Ham decide to go further.

Chelsea: Pochettino "will" move for "shining star" pending condition

Liverpool having been pursuing Romeo Lavia for a while now and it hasn’t been the easiest of transfer sagas. Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has now given an update on the future of the Southampton midfielder to GIVEMESPORT.

Where will Romeo Lavia move to?

Despite being relegated to the Championship, Southampton are remaining strong and holding out for mouth-watering fees regarding their most valuable assets.

At the heart of this is Romeo Lavia, who has Liverpool on red alert and has done for a while. The midfield turnover at Anfield is well and truly happening with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both having made the move to Saudi Arabia.

Chelsea have also been linked to the 19-year-old from Brussels, Belgium and if their pursuit of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo proves unsuccessful, then Liverpool could be presented with yet another headache.

Chelsea themselves are looking at wholesale changes in the middle of the park. Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move to fellow Londoners West Ham United as he goes in search of more regular playing time whilst Mason Mount has of course joined Manchester United.

Lavia, who has been hailed as a "shining star", would certainly be a welcome addition to the Chelsea side.

What has Ryan Taylor had to say?

“It's hard to say in the transfer window because as we've seen so many times in the past, something can happen out of the blue within the space of an hour.

"My personal opinion is that if Lavia is to leave Southampton, he's going to be joining Liverpool. I think negotiations are already, I don't want to say advanced as in they are at an advanced stage, but there has been a lot of dialogue between the two clubs.

"Two bids have gone in, both of them have been rejected. There have been talks on the player side with his representatives as well, and Lavia would be happy to move to Liverpool.

"So when I say advanced, I mean a lot more groundwork has been done on the deal, and obviously we know Liverpool have lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

"I say this cautiously, but I don't think Liverpool have anything to fear with a hijack. The only way that becomes the case is if Chelsea categorically decide that Moises Caicedo is too expensive, and then I think Chelsea will move for Lavia.

"But I still see Chelsea getting Caicedo anyway, so I think those two are expected to materialise."

What else is going on at Chelsea?

Chelsea have been one of the most active Premier League teams so far in this summer window whether or not Romeo Lavia moves to Stamford Bridge.

Christopher Nkunku is one of those arrivals but injury may keep him out for a number of months, potentially leading to another attacking signing. Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is one name in that conversation, having been linked with the Blues previously.

A huge name being tied to Chelsea in the headlines, as per The Guardian, is the one and only Neymar. The Brazilian superstar wants out of Paris Saint-Germain, meaning that the unstoppable triumvirate of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi could all be moved on this year. Neymar is also being linked with a famous return to Barcelona, but could the pull of the Premier League make the difference?

Cricket South Africa postpones Global T20 league

The inaugural season of Cricket South Africa’s T20 Global League, which was scheduled to begin on November 3, has been postponed to November 2018 instead. The franchises understood that the delay in securing a stable television broadcast deal and central rights sponsorship for the tournament were the main reasons for postponing the GLT20, the brainchild of former CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat who had parted ways with the board last month.

SACA expresses “concern and disappointment”

The South African Cricketers Association has called for an “independent review” into what has caused the postponement of the T20 Global League.
“This has a very significant impact on a large number of local and overseas players, all of whom have signed contracts to play in the league,” Tony Irish, chief executive of SACA, said. “Some players turned down other opportunities in order to commit themselves to these contracts. We will be looking at all implications of this for players, including what compensation should be paid to them.”
“SACA is well aware of the fact that this will also affect various other groups including franchises, coaches and stadium owners. I think it will be necessary for CSA to appoint its own independent review into what has actually transpired here as there are significant implications across South African cricket.”

ESPNcricinfo learned that CSA had informed all the eight franchises of the decision over the past few days. “We have not come to this decision lightly,” CSA’s acting CEO Thabang Moroe said. “Having discussed it with all our stakeholders including the franchise owners, we believe that the interest of the league should be our first priority. We have re-assessed our strategy and believe that postponing the first edition of the T20 Global League to next year will serve us well. We will regroup and come back stronger and better.”With less than a month to go before kickoff, the event faced numerous logistical challenges, not least the inability to secure a broadcast deal or a title sponsor, resulting in hefty financial losses. Though local broadcaster SuperSport is understood to have been close to putting pen to paper, the deal was going to be worth much less than CSA anticipated.Last week, Moroe told reporters that CSA was bracing for a $25 million loss on the first edition of the tournament, which amounted to half of the organisation’s cash reserves. He also provided an assurance that the tournament would go ahead as planned.Moroe had taken over from Lorgat, who parted ways with CSA on September 28, after his relationship with the board became untenable. The board’s unhappiness with Lorgat’s methods of organisation of the T20 Global League was one of the reasons for his departure, but one of the GLT20 franchise owners told ESPNcricinfo that Lorgat’s absence had created “much bigger challenges” in putting the tournament together, because he was its driving force.”When you know that something is not right then you should not do it,” the owner said. “We are half-prepared and it will be a bigger disaster if we go this way.”There was no indication that any of the current owners, seven of whom are from overseas, would withdraw from the event. Moroe met with the franchise owners on at least one occasion and was confident they remained committed to putting the tournament together. However, the time-frame was too short to put together an event of the quality CSA and the owners wanted. The postponement of the GLT20 leaves an enormous gap in the South African cricket calendar. For six weeks in peak summer, neither the national team nor the domestic franchises will be in action because CSA had created space for the event. Zimbabwe are due to visit South Africa over Boxing Day for a four-day, day-night match that is awaiting Test status, which means that after Bangladesh’s tour ends on October 29, South Africans will not see any live home cricket until December 26, unless a contingency plan is made.

Australia hope to bounce back on grassy pitch

Australia have lost each of their last nine completed ODIs on the road, and will hope they can turn their form around on an Eden Gardens surface that has aided seam rather than spin in recent months

The Preview by Nikhil Kalro20-Sep-20172:28

Expert Pick – Agar for Zampa?

Big PictureIn their last 10 completed ODIs on the road, Australia have won one game, against Ireland in September 2016. Never in their ODI history have Australia had a 10% win rate over a similar sample size. Where has it gone so wrong? With Tests preferred over bilateral ODI series, key personnel have consistently been rotated, and while it may keep the players fresh, it has had a regressing effect on the set-up of the team.Australia’s troubles against spin were exacerbated in a 3-0 drubbing against Sri Lanka in the Tests in July 2016. In their subsequent Test series in India and Bangladesh, there were discernible signs of improvement, but they were by Australia’s most technically efficient batsmen. For the ODIs, Australia have sacrificed technique for run-scoring ability, and that trade-off – whether apt or not – proved counter-productive in the first game in Chennai. Wristpinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav exerted absolute control over Australia’s batsmen apart from Glenn Maxwell. With their recent form, India were a confident team coming into this series. That morale may have climbed another level after they recovered from 11 for 3 to post 281, and subsequently defended a revised target of 163 with little trouble. In Hardik Pandya, India have found a fifth bowler who isn’t a weak link and a No. 7 who has the maturity and arrogance to weather tough periods and then take on long, straight boundaries even with a trap set just for that.Form guideIndia WWWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
Australia LLLLWIn the spotlightEvery ODI team, apart from Bangladesh, has a wristspinner in, or close to, their best XI. Playing wristspinners is advantageous not only because batsmen struggle to differentiate between their stock ball and their variations, but also due to the extra bounce that they generate, making the sweep a risky get-out-of-jail shot. That was evident when Chahal and Kuldeep ran through Australia’s middle order in Chennai. Ahead of the series, captain Steven Smith said the surfaces wouldn’t spin as much, which presents batsmen an arguably tougher challenge to preserve their wickets.Australia’s genuine fast bowlers, Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile, troubled India’s top order with pace and lateral movement in Chennai. In the last ODI in Kolkata, England’s seamers also enjoyed a rare quick surface. Coulter-Nile also has the experience of playing at Eden Gardens, having taken eight wickets in four IPL games at the venue for Kolkata Knight Riders.Team newsIndia’s only question lies in their middle order. Will they stick with Manish Pandey, who was dismissed for a two-ball duck in Chennai?India (probable): 1 Ajinkya Rahane, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 Manish Pandey/KL Rahul, 5 Kedar Jadhav, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Yuzvendra Chahal, 11 Jasprit BumrahAustralia’s batting issues have caused them plenty of distress already. Debutant Hilton Cartwright, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade failed miserably in Chennai. An alternative option is Peter Handscomb, who has shown he could be Australia’s long-term No. 4 in Tests, and has the technique and ability to score quickly. Stoinis struggled to pick wristpin, but bowled tidily, which could help him retain his spot.Australia (probable): 1 David Warner, 2 Travis Head, 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 Peter Handscomb, 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 10 Pat Cummins, 11 Adam ZampaAFP

Pitch and conditionsHeavy rains in the lead-up to the ODI have hampered the preparation of the pitch, which has remained primarily under covers. There is a forecast for thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon. On the eve of the match, Smith noted that the pitch had a bit of grass on it, “probably more than I’ve seen in India for a while”. This suggests it could play true to its recent reputation of aiding seam more than spin. Remember Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 49 all out? The short boundaries, though, could level out the balance between bat and ball.Stats and trivia Rohit Sharma has scored 794 runs at an average of 113.42 and a strike rate of 99.87 across formats (first-class, List A and T20) in his last nine innings at Eden Gardens. In ODIs and T20Is, Hardik Pandya hits a six every 6.4 balls against spin, the best frequency for any batsman. Of his 19 sixes, 14 have been struck straight, in the arc between long-on and long-off Seamers took 61 wickets at a strike rate of 16.4 in the previous IPL season in Kolkata, while spinners picked up 24 wickets at a strike rate of 23. The average score in the last five ODIs at Eden Gardens is 311.Quotes”I don’t think I’m in a bad place with my captaincy. Obviously results haven’t been the way we would have liked and that’s something we are trying to rectify.”

Pakistan complete 5-0 after Usman bags five in 21 balls

A devastating new-ball spell from Pakistan’s latest left-arm sensation sent Sri Lanka spiralling to 103 all out and the ignominy of their third 5-0 ODI whitewash of the year

The Report by Danyal Rasool23-Oct-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsAssociated PressIn a year in which Sri Lanka have continued to sink further into the depths of ODI ineptitude, they surely hit rock bottom today. In a performance that put an exclamation mark on their run of 12 straight ODI losses, they illustrated why they have struggled so badly in the format. They couldn’t bat, dismissed for 103 in 26 overs. They couldn’t bowl all that well, taking only one wicket as Pakistan cruised home with over 30 overs to spare. It is another whitewash for Sri Lanka, the third they have suffered this year alone. South Africa and India were the othertormentors. The prospect of a damning defeat was writ large over the contest after the very first over, in which Usman Khan took the first two wickets of astaggering opening spell. He had come to prominence with a scintillating performance in a domestic T20 final in 2013, but after today, thatdomestic admiration can turn to international acclaim. It tends to happen once you complete a five-for in 3.3 overs.Maybe there’s a peculiar curse Sharjah has cast on Sri Lanka – they’ve been bowled out below 100 four times at this ground. It could have been five; they were 85 for 9 at one point, before Dushmantha Chameera and VishwaFernando put together an 18-run partnership and rescued their side from that ignominy. For the third straight game, Upul Tharanga won the toss and chose to bat. But Sri Lanka’s luck has remained confined to the toss this tour. One over into the innings, it was clear that wasn’t going to change today. The dismissals themselves were something to behold; it was Pakistani fast bowling at its most exhilarating. Sadeera Samarawickmara failed to adjust to the moving ball and inside-edged onto his middle stump. Dinesh Chandimal was utterly helpless against one that swung away, edging to Sarfraz Ahmed. In Usman’s second over, Tharanga – just like the previous game – was unable to prevent one from sneaking in between his bat and pad. Niroshan Dickwella fell lbw to another prodigious inswinger. Siriwardana tamely scooped to cover point, and in under 7 overs Sri Lanka were 20 for 5.Thoroughly dispirited and broken all series, Sri Lanka had dug themselves into a hole in the first half hour of the game, and were already reduced to respectability restoration. Then Thirimanne edged Hasan Ali to the wicketkeeper and Seekkuge Prasanna ran himself out in a horribly amateur way, failing to ground his bat in a bid to avoid a throw in his direction. Pakistan didn’t need that sort of charity, but it was welcome.Thisara Perera struck a few boundaries en route to 25, the top score for his side. But in an innings where wickets were the currency of choice, that sort of resistance was merely pennies on the dollar. Hasan and Shadab Khan cleaned up the tail, and Pakistan were left with 104 to get to sweep the series. There was no drama to be had, with Sri Lanka coming out looking like a boxer for whom the knockout punch would be a blissful release. The second innings was a case of two teams going through the motions. But while Fakhar Zaman fell short of a half-century, reasons for joy were in short supply for the visitors. Pakistan looked almost embarrassed to complete the whitewash, so wide was the chasm between the two sides. However, the major discomfort all belongs to the visitors, who will be left pondering how on earth to salvage some pride in the upcoming T20series.

United Interested In £100k-A-Week "One-Man Army"

Manchester United have been scouting a "tenacious" midfielder for "a long time" and could turn their attention to him should a deal for Sofyan Amrabat not materialise, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United news – what is the latest?

It's been a brilliant transfer window for United fans so far this summer, and while it may have started a little slow, with some fans worrying that the spending of other sides would blow them away, they have ended up with a significantly improved squad with half of August left to try and add even more quality where they can.

One of the names that has been most heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer is Fiorentina midfielder and World Cup star, Amrabat. The 26-year-old had a brilliant 12 months for club and country and has been touted with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams for weeks.

However, whilst the three-time European champions remain the favourites to land their man – and his preferred destination – a deal has had to wait due to other deals taking priority and the need to offload players before outlaying even more on any incomings.

With that in mind, should a deal for the Moroccan not materialise for whatever reason, the Red Devils have a list with several potential alternatives, including Everton's highly rated Amadou Onana, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

amadou-onana-premier-league-man-united-transfers

He explained the situation live on The United Stand's YouTube channel, saying:

"Onana from Everton is another player that United have always appreciated, and they have been scouting him for a long time, so I think they have multiple names into the list."

How good is Amadou Onana?

It should come as no surprise that with the interest the Belgian has garnered from the likes of Arsenal, West Ham United, and now Manchester United, he is a quality operator and would be an excellent addition to the majority of football clubs.

Last year was his first in England, but you wouldn't be able to tell from his performances as he was consistently one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dismal season for the Toffees.

In his 29 league starts last year, the 21-year-old scored one goal, provided two assists, maintained a passing accuracy of 84%, won 1.8 aerial duals and averaged an impressive match rating of 6.71, per WhoScored.

Everton's Amadou Onana

His performances are only made all the more impressive when you consider the dysfunctional team around him, and had he not been playing, there is a very good chance Everton wouldn't be a Premier League team this season.

Described as both an "aggressive & tenacious tackler" whilst also possessing "above-average technical skills" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, the £100,000-a-week titan could be precisely the kind of "one-man army" ten Hag needs to round out his squad this season.

Even if the Red Devils can secure the services of Amrabat before the window slams shut on September 1st, it might be a good idea to try and land Onana as well, to help the team fight on multiple fronts this year.
