Report drops Matt O’Riley Celtic exit news as Premier League scouts spotted

Celtic could be set to lose one of their most important players next month, with a fresh report revealing that he’s been watched by scouts sent from a new admirer.

Celtic confirmed ins and outs

The Hoops sanctioned the sales of ten players during the previous transfer window, with seven of those leaving on a permanent basis, while the remaining three were sent out on loan for the rest of the season to increase their experience and game time.

The Scottish Premiership side have Greg Taylor, David Turnbull, Joe Hart and Scott Bain who will have all reached the expiration of their deals at the end of the campaign, so there’s a chance that they could also soon be heading for the exit door (Celtic contracts).

Back in September, Matt O’Riley put pen to paper on fresh terms, meaning that he has committed himself to the club until at least May 31, 2027, but regardless of his situation, the central midfielder hasn’t stopped attracting interest thanks to his impressive performances since the start of the term.

The Denmark international has firmly established himself as Brendan Rodgers’ overall best-performing player so far this season with a match rating of 7.85 (WhoScored – Celtic statistics), and the 23-year-old’s outstanding displays appear to have been assessed live in action by a club in the Premier League.

Newcastle are watching O'Riley

According to TEAMtalk, O’Riley is of interest to Newcastle, but they have been warned that it will cost a record fee in order for him to leave Celtic in January.

Newcastle United have scouted the 23-year-old on multiple occasions, including whilst he was playing senior international football for his country, Denmark. Any deal will be a Scottish transfer record, with the Hoops demanding over £25m for the star.

"O’Riley is happy at Celtic but would find a move to England hard to turn down with the opportunity to play in the world’s best league and the obvious financial gain too much to reject.”

Celtic need to keep "magician" in O'Riley

In the Scottish Premiership this season, O’Riley has already clocked up 14 involvements, nine goals and five assists, from 16 appearances, showing just how prolific he can be in the final third, and he’s able to pose a constant threat to the opposition's defence (Transfermarkt – O’Riley statistics).

Standing at 6 foot 2, the left-footed colossus has recorded 47 shots over the course of the current campaign which is more than any of his fellow teammates, representing what a standout performer he is in the attacking areas of the pitch in comparison to his peers (FBRef – Celtic statistics).

Celtic’s “midfield magician”, as hailed by a member of the media, has even helped to secure four pieces of silverware during his time at the club, so making the decision to retain his services beyond next month has to be a no-brainer no matter the price.

Bayern confirm Rangnick interestCould replace Tuchel at Allianz ArenaHoeness says deal could happen 'within a week'Getty ImagesWHAT HAPPENED?

Current Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel is set to leave the Allianz Arena at the conclusion of the season, and Rangnick has been tipped to replace his fellow German, with Hoeness confirming their interest in the Austrian national team manager.

Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine, Hoeness said [via Fabrizio Romano]: "Yes, there are talks ongoing with Ralf Rangnick. I think we will have a decision within a week."

Bayern Munich made the decision to part ways with Tuchel in February after it was all but confirmed that Bayer Leverkusen would run away with the Bundesliga title, meaning that the Bavarians would lose the league title for the first time since 2013. Rangnick has emerged as a surprise option for them after Xabi Alonso remained their favourite candidate until the Spaniard confirmed his decision to stay put with Die Werkself.

WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN?

The Bavarians will hope to settle their affairs soon as the new manager will influence the club's transfer policy for the upcoming summer. Meanwhile, Tuchel and company will look to win the Champions League as they take on Real Madrid in the semi-final on April 30 and May 8.

Man City keen to re-sign "different class" player; he’s been shortlisted

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to add to his squad in January and is now reportedly on the trail of a former Sky Blues player ahead of the transfer window opening.

Manchester City transfer updates…

The Citizens are always there or thereabouts when it comes to transfer stories and this January looks to be no different as Guardiola aims to ensure his side have adequate squad depth to challenge on several fronts.

Planning for the immediate term is the main consideration at the Etihad Stadium; however, bringing in players for the future is another important facet of their spending.

According to The Sun, Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Boca Juniors wonderkid Valentin Barco and will aim to acquire the left-back before then sending him out on loan to Leicester City, who are managed by former Sky Blues assistant Enzo Maresca, in order to gain further experience.

Brighton & Hove Albion were also keen on the Argentinian defender, which is usually a good indicator of their potential due to the Seagulls' success in nurturing prodigious talent; however, the Citizens look to have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals and are now in the driving seat to complete a £13 million swoop for Barco.

AC Milan striker Francesco Camarda, who became the youngest ever player in Serie A last weekend, is also someone who Manchester City have made overtures to try and tempt to the North West, though they face stiff competition from Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund for his signature.

Now, a fresh report has suggested that Guardiola could turn to a former Manchester City man in January to bolster a key position.

Manchester City target Douglas Luiz

According to Football Insider, Manchester City are keen to re-sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, who is on a shortlist of potential midfield recruits at the Etihad Stadium which also includes Al-Hilal playmaker Ruben Neves.

The report claims that the Citizens had a buyback clause inserted into his deal when he left for Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £15 million; nevertheless, it expired in 2021 and they would likely need to shell out a hefty fee to acquire the Brazil international.

Douglas Luiz celebrates for Aston Villa

Luiz, who has previously been labelled "different class" by Harry Redknapp, has made 20 appearances in all competitions this campaign, registering six goals and three assists (Luiz statistics – Transfermarkt).

Providing efficient support for attackers such as Ollie Watkins, Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey, the 25-year-old has averaged around 1.2 shots and 1.5 key passes per Premier League match in 2023/24 (Luiz statistics – WhoScored).

Manchester City are always on the lookout for talent to bolster their already stacked squad and Luiz could make a dramatic return to the North West despite failing to make an impression last time out.

Moyes now aiming to strike Guirassy deal for West Ham amid Stuttgart claim

West Ham and manager David Moyes are "hoping to complete a deal" for one club's lethal striker with "zero expectation" that he stays put in January.

West Ham on the lookout for new striker

Some reports suggest West Ham are eyeing as many as three new additions next month (TEAMtalk), but to comply with FFP and avoid an Everton-type scenario, they may need to be careful.

West Ham "leading the way" to sign striker who Shearer thinks is "clinical"

Steidten is chasing a new forward.

ByEmilio Galantini Dec 12, 2023

The Hammers spent close to £120 million on signings over the most recent summer window, a kitty bolstered by their marquee sale of former club captain Declan Rice to Arsenal. However, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has recently stated West Ham will need to be careful budget-wise in January, mainly due to their overspending in the summer of 2021.

“I have spoken to the person who would be best placed to answer on our January transfer budget,” said Ex (via The West Ham Way). "We overspent in 2021 and we have to be careful to not ‘do an Everton’. So although there is money there in the pot, it isn’t a huge amount as the club are being understandably careful."

That being said, technical director Tim Steidten is still working with co-chairman David Sullivan and the board to identify transfer targets. Steidten's "main focus" is signing a striker for West Ham, according to reports, with there being a few names on the agenda.

RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner and Chelsea's Armando Broja are some of the more high-profile names to be linked with a move to east London recently, while Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy is a very promising lesser-known option.

West Ham "hoping to complete a deal" for Guirassy

According to TEAMtalk, Moyes is personally very keen to add a goalscorer and West Ham are "hoping to complete a deal" for Guirassy in January.

The Guinea international has caught the eye with some scintillating Bundesliga displays this season, sitting just behind Harry Kane in the Bundesliga's goalscoring charts.

Guirassy would also be eager to make a Premier League move and test himself in Europe's most prestigious division, which gives hope to West Ham alongside his enticing £15 million release clause.

Such a figure would come as one of the bargains of the season based off his form this campaign, and West Ham are given a further incentive to move based off news over his future at Stuttgart.

TEAMtalk and journalist Fraser Gillan add that there is "zero expectation" Guirassy stays at his club beyond January, with a winter move almost a matter of who he leaves for rather than if.

Stuttgart strikerSerhou Guirassy.

The 27-year-old, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, is one of Germany's most potent marksmen right now. According to WhoScored, only Victor Boniface, Harry Kane and Lois Openda have averaged more attempts at goal per 90 so far this term.

Scoring 16 goals in just 12 appearances, Guirassy's red-hot form makes his meagre clause look like a price well and truly worth paying. Going by Ex's information on West Ham's limited budget, this electric striker seems like the most obvious solution.

Blow for Warne as Derby star now set to miss next 17 games after surgery

Paul Warne has turned things around at Derby County following a difficult start to the season. The Rams are on course to get a shot at making an appearance at Wembley at the very least, but will be well aware of just how many games are left to play in League One before they can potentially realise their dreaming of gaining a place back in the Championship.

As we approach the busy festive period, the last thing that Warne would have wanted is a number of injury blows. Yet, as we enter December, the Derby manager is set to be without one star player for an enxtended period.

Derby County injury news

The international break came at a disappointing time for Derby, who entered the break with just one loss in five games in all competitions. From Warne's perspective, his side's momentum had every chance of coming to an end without league action. Worse yet, he would have been aware of the dangers of those on international break picking up long-term injuries. And that's exactly what happened to one particular Derby star to deal the Rams a major blow ahead of an action-packed period of football.

Derby County eyeing January move to sign "incredible" new striker

The Rams are in need of reinforcements in pursuit of promotion…

ByTom Cunningham Nov 23, 2023

Warne confirmed that Conor Washington will miss the next three months after picking up ankle ligament damage, which requires surgery. Warne told BBC Radio Derby: It's a massive blow. Unfortunately he's damaged two of his three ligaments, so he is going to need an op and be out for 12 weeks after the op's taken place, and he hasn't had it yet. He's not in a good place, obviously.

"We are not going to boohoo about it – it's just disappointing. Every striker has a different attribute and Wash's is one where he could stretch the play for us and give us a different dimension. And he was starting to get, not his football mojo back, I don't mean it like that, but his form back possibly and think the fans started to see the good side of Wash, so it's a big blow."

What games will Washington miss?

Out for up to three months, Washington is likely to miss 17 of Derby's 29 remaining games in League One this season in what is clearly a real hit to their promotion chances. Washington's stats, which show that he has been involved in five goals this season in all competitions, suggest that the Rams will need to rely on the likes of James Collins for goals from here, as they look to set themselves up for play-off glory come their forward's return.

Out of the most important games. Washington will miss fixtures against the likes of Lincoln City, Oxford United, Peterborough, Stevenage and Barnsley, who are all vying for a place in the second tier. Given that Derby are just two points inside the play-off spots, too, they can ill-afford more slip-ups in the coming months.

In an ideal world, Washington will return with his side on course for promotion, giving him every opportunity to become a returning hero.

Uncapped Lutho Sipamla in South Africa T20I squad

Lutho Sipamla is all smiles after taking a wicket•MSL

Uncapped 20-year-old fast bowler Lutho Sipamla has been picked in South Africa’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Pakistan, which begins on February 1. Sipamla was rewarded for his excellent performances in the Mzansi Super League (MSL), where he was the third-highest wicket-taker with 16 scalps in 10 matches at an economy rate of 8.89.Sipamla’s pinpoint yorkers and rapid bouncers stood out in particular in the MSL, along with a cool head when batsmen looked to take him on.”Lutho made a very good impression in the Mzansi Super League which is making a big contribution to our talent pipeline in helping to bridge the gap between franchise and international cricket,” convener of selectors Linda Zondi said. Also in the squad were Gihahn Cloete, who has played one T20I against Zimbabwe late last year, and Rassie van der Dussen, who recently impressed in his first two ODIs against Pakistan. Cloete is the third wicketkeeper in the squad behind Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen.”We will be giving Gihahn the opportunity to keep wicket as part of our strategy to build up the depth in the wicketkeeping position to back-up Quinton de Kock with both Gihahn and Heinrich Klaasen capable of holding down positions as specialist batsmen,” Zondi said.Allrounder Wiaan Mulder, who has recovered from ankle injury, also returned to the squad. He has played seven ODIs so far, but is uncapped in T20I cricket. Andile Phehlukwayo and Chris Morris are the other allrounders in the side.Left-arm quick Beuran Hendricks, who last played a T20I in 2017, will form the seam attack with Junior Dala and Sipamla. Left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi is the only spinner in the squad while captain Faf du Plessis, de Kock and David Miller will lead the batting line-up.Squad: Faf du Plessis (capt), Gihahn Cloete, Junior Dala, Quinton de Kock, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Chris Morris, Wiaan Mulder, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, Rassie van der Dussen.

Pandya to join India squad in New Zealand, Rahul to play for India A

The CoA has lifted the suspensions on the two cricketers ‘with immediate effect’, pending the appointment and adjudication of the BCCI’s ombudsman

Nagraj Gollapudi24-Jan-2019Hardik Pandya will join India’s limited-overs squad in New Zealand and KL Rahul the India A squad that is currently playing a 50-overs series against England Lions in Thiruvananthapuram, after the BCCI lifted their suspensions on Thursday.Pandya will fly out to New Zealand “at the earliest”, according to a BCCI release, while Rahul will join his India A team-mates for the last three matches of the series, on January 27, 29 and 31. Given that India play their second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Monday, January 28, appears to be the earliest possible opportunity for Pandya to return to action.Rahul and Pandya had been suspended for their controversial comments on a TV show, but became available for selection as soon as the BCCI’s Committee of Administrators lifted the ban on the pair, pending the appointment and adjudication of the board’s ombudsman. The CoA banned Pandya and Rahul on January 11 for their controversial comments on a TV chat show. However, the fate of the two players since then had been in limbo because of the split in the two-member CoA over what the next step should be.CoA chairman Vinod Rai was in favour of placing a two-match suspension and allowing the players to return pending an inquiry by an ad-hoc ombudsman. However, former India woman’s captain Diana Edulji, the other half of the CoA, disagreed, saying either the office bearers and the COA carry out the inquiry or it be done by an ombudsman. Two of the three BCCI office bearers had then pointed out that the ombudsman could only be appointed by the BCCI.It was then decided that the CoA would wait for the Supreme Court to take call on the appointment of the ombudsman, considering the BCCI had failed to fill the position lying vacant since late 2016. At a hearing last week, the court deferred its decision saying it would have a say only after amicus curiae PS Narasimha took charge. It is understood that Edulji was not keen to change her stance, but Narasimha is learned to have intervened and said the interim suspensions over the players be lifted subject to the ombudsman’s adjudication, once appointed.Accordingly, the BCCI issued a statement, stating the CoA had lifted the “interim suspension” on both Pandya and Rahul with immediate effect. “The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the amicus curiae, Mr PS Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI ombudsman,” the board said.

Jofra Archer on England's World Cup radar, says Ashley Giles

Ashley Giles has confirmed Jofra Archer’s “hat will be in the ring” for England selection ahead of the World Cup. But Giles, the new managing director of England men’s cricket and, as a result, a selector, said he would have to talk to the others on the panel, notably national selector Ed Smith, before a final decision was taken. He also sounded a note of caution over expectations of Archer, who has played only 14 List A games, suggesting it would be unfair to expect “some sort of messiah” if he is selected.Archer, Barbados born but the holder of a British passport courtesy of an English father, qualifies for England selection in March. That means he will have no chance to make his international debut before England have to name their provisional World Cup squad by April 23.But while Eoin Morgan, the England captain, has previously said that, unless injury intervenes, it may be too late for Archer to force his way into a relatively settled England one-day squad, Giles suggested Archer’s skills could prove hard to ignore. England play a one-off ODI against Ireland, on May 3, and have a five-match ODI series against Pakistan before the World Cup.”He is an exciting cricketer and his hat will be in the ring,” Giles said when asked if the World Cup came too soon for Archer. “It will be exciting when Jofra is available. Any guys who bowl 90mph-plus are going to create interest and get people out of their seats. His skills are good and it is a massive one-day year. He will be available from the end of March.”Giles is also keen not to unsettle a team that has taken England to the top of the ODI rankings and looks likely to go into the World Cup as favourites. And, for all Archer’s success in T20 cricket – he has played in leagues around the world and was the quickest bowler in last year’s IPL – his inexperience in List A cricket is a concern.”We’ve got a group of players who’ve done a lot to get us to this point and have performed very well for England,” Giles said. “So competition for those final places is going to be strong.”I’ll have to speak to Ed. I’ve not spent much time with him although we spoke through the summer as a director of cricket of a county [while Giles was at Warwickshire]. I’ll need to get some other opinions as well. I need to know what the coaches are thinking and the captains.”It is a big year and it would be a bit tough on the lad to think he is going to be some sort of messiah coming into the team. But he is an exciting cricketer.”Giles also confirmed that he hoped to travel to the Caribbean and India in the coming weeks to see the England side and the England Lions side in action.”I’ll be going out for second Test in Antigua and some of the one-dayers,” he said. “It is not about me just watching some cricket: I need to get to know some of these guys. Before we know it, we will be into the season so I need some time with them. I have a long list of people I need to catch-up with and a long list of stuff I need to read.”
