An eventful contest at the Etihad Stadium saw John Stones snatch a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser for City in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Haaland had opened the scoring, with his 100th goal for the reigning Premier League champions, before Rodri hobbled off injured and Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel turned the clash on its head.

Leandro Trossard was then sent off for the Gunners – collecting a second yellow card for kicking the ball away – and Mikel Arteta’s side spent the entire second half desperately hanging on to the slenderest of leads. Late heartache was inflicted by Stones.
DID YOU KNOW?
After the England international defender bundled home, Haaland picked the ball up and threw it against the head of Brazilian defender Gabriel – who could not see what was happening as he had his shirt over his face. No action was taken at the time.

Who's hot, who's not? GOAL ranks all 29 teams across Major League Soccer
The 2024 MLS field is more open than ever. There's a clear hierarchy atop both the Eastern and Western Conferences, but outside the top teams, it's open season for playoff qualification.
On Matchday 32, Lionel Messi made his triumphant return to the pitch for Inter Miami, scoring twice and notching an assist as well. The Herons hold a seven-point lead at the top in the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield after the Argentine's weekend heroics.
Meanwhile, it was rivalry weekend elsewhere. The LA Galaxy defeated rivals LAFC 4-2 in another edition of , while in the Midwest, the derby failed to live up to the hype. FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew played to a stalemate, as No. 2 and No. 3 in the West left it scoreless.
Elsewhere, the Colorado Rapids are soaring, Minnesota United have turned a new leaf and the Houston Dynamo are quickly becoming a sneaky dark horse in the West.
With the MLS campaign nearing a close, which club leads the pack, and who is falling short of expectations? GOAL presents the latest MLS Power Rankings.

26Nashville SC ⬆️
BJ Callaghan got his first win as Nashville's coach but the playoffs are still out of grasp for this club. Yet, a win on the road against Atlanta is nothing to glance over. Job well done.
Rain forced the match to be abandoned with the points shared after Lancashire had restricted Leicestershire to 150-9 in the North Group Vitality Blast match at Grace Road.It was particularly frustrating for the visitors, who played some fine out-cricket after captain Dane Vilas won the toss and put the Foxes in.Vilas himself led the way with a hat-trick of catches, including a brilliant one-handed effort leaping backwards to dismiss Leicestershire danger man Arron Lilley, and a diving two-handed take after a sprint along along the boundary from long-off to end Ben Mike’s innings and secure Lightning seamer Tom Bailey his best T20 return of 5-17. Lancashire had arrived at Grace Road with confidence taken from the manner in which they beat Durham by a comfortable 27 runs on Thursday. Understandably, they made no changes to the side which started at the Emirates Riverside, 22-year-old left-arm spinner Tom Hartley retaining his place, while Leicestershire gave T20 county debuts to Tom Taylor, George Rhodes and Ireland international Gareth Delany, signed at short notice last week after it was confirmed South African batsman Janneman Malan would be unable to travel due to pandemic restrictions.Delany, opening the innings, did not last long, losing his off stump to Bailey in the second over, but Lilley hit both Hartley and Liam Hurt for straight sixes in going to 26 before Vilas’ athletic leap as he tried to chip a Danny Lamb full-toss over mid-on brought his downfall. It set a pattern for the innings. In the 12th over Bailey took an equally brilliant catch, one-handed low to his left at extra cover, to catch Rhodes off Hurt, and wickets continued to fall as Leicestershire tried to pick up the scoring rate, though Mike hit Lamb for consecutive sixes in the penultimate over. The rain had already begun to fall, however, and after 90 minutes umpires Nick Cook and Rob White decided there was no prospect of play resuming.”I’ve not played white ball cricket in three years, and I didn’t think I was going to play this year either, so it’s nice to have an opportunity and I’ve taken it with both hands,” Bailey said. “We’re such a strong white ball side it’s always going to be tough to get in and I’ve had to wait in the wings.”We were good in the field in our first game but we fielded so well today as a group. My catch was an absolute worldie – I’ll never take one like that again. It was the highlight of my day, better than taking five wickets. And for a 35-year-old [Vilas] to throw himself around the field like that, it’s great to see.”Leicestershire captain Colin Ackermann said: “You want to get on a roll in this format, especially when there’s only ten games, so to lose the first two to the weather is frustrating. Saying that, I thought we were about 15 runs short. They were exceptional in the field and took four outstanding catches and saved 20 runs.”It’s our first chance to bat in the comp, we’ll learn from that display and come back strong against Durham at Headingley on Monday.”

Estávamos todos na área. Estávamos mal posicionados para a transição. Hoje realmente foi uma noite muito ruim para nós. Temos de rever uma série de situações – explicou.

Celtic all but sealed their third successive Scottish Premiership title with a narrow 2-1 win over their local rivals at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.
The Hoops scored two goals in quick succession during the first half as Matt O'Riley gave the hosts the lead before an own goal from John Lundstram made it two just three minutes later.
Cyriel Dessers pulled one back for Rangers with a close range header but Lundstram was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Alistair Johnston, and the away team spent the second half failing to get back into the match.
O'Riley was one of the standouts on the park for the Scottish giants with his midfield wizardry but he was not the only star of the show for Celtic, as Daizen Maeda was as good as the Denmark international.
Matt O'Riley's Old Firm magic
The left-footed maestro caught the eye once again for Celtic as he registered his 15th Scottish Premiership goal of the campaign, in 35 appearances.
O'Riley, who has also chipped in with 12 assists in the league, opened the scoring at Parkhead with a thumping finish into the bottom right corner after Callum McGregor played the ball to him just inside the box.

As you can see in the table above, the Danish gem was also reliable in possession, provided a big threat in the final third as a shot-taker and creator, and competed well in his duels.
However, O'Riley did let himself down with a weak penalty that gave Jack Butland the chance to make a save, which provided the away side with a chance to get back into the match in the second half, albeit they did not take it.
Daizen Maeda's big contributions
Maeda was unplayable alongside his Danish teammate in the Old Firm clash as his work in and out of possession was crucial to Celtic's success on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers once claimed that the Japan international has the work rate of "two players" and that was on full display against the Light Blues at Paradise.
Kenny Miller described him as a "pressing machine" on commentary for Sky Sports, which fellow commentator Chris Sutton agreed with, as the winger constantly closed down opposition players to stop Rangers attacks in their tracks.
Celtic's Daizen Maeda.
James Tavernier ended the match with a 57% pass accuracy and one key pass, compared to his usual 78% pass accuracy and 3.2 key passes per game, which illustrates how effective Maeda's closing down was.
Whenever the English full-back attempted to bomb down the flank or put a ball into the box, the Hoops winger was there in the right place to close him down and force him to produce a turnover or go backwards.
The right-footed forward, who started on the left flank, also made a telling contribution in attack as his burst down the left wing produced the cross from which Lundstram prodded the ball into his own net.
Maeda does not officially get the assist for the goal but it was his teasing delivery into the box that forced the midfielder to find the back of his own net.
Overall, the talented ace, who had 34 touches of the ball and completed 100% (2/2) of his dribbles, was unplayable with his fantastic pressing and wing play, and that is why him and O'Riley were two of the standouts for the Scottish giants.
The head coach, however, defended the selection and use of Shadab Khan at Old Trafford

Misbah-ul-Haq watches on from the Pakistan balcony•Getty Images
Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq rued his side’s lack of fortune at crucial times on the fourth day as Pakistan slumped to a tense three-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the first Test at Old Trafford. Writing for the PCB’s in-house website, Misbah said Pakistan “were right on top until pretty much the last session of the game” and warned his players not to be “mentally down” as they try and hit back in the second Test, which starts on Thursday. In a detailed piece addressed to supporters following one of the more agonising defeats in recent years, Misbah paid “full credit to England for the way they fought back” and admitted his side may have panicked at crucial moments during Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler’s 139-run sixth wicket partnership during England’s chase. He addressed the failure of the Pakistan side to bowl short at Woakes early on during his innings – a perceived weakness of the England allrounder – but said Woakes and Buttler “had quite a lot of luck in that partnership”.”We are feeling frustrated, just as the fans are, after the Old Trafford Test match but this is how cricket is,” he wrote. “There are very small margins between victory and defeat and it’s easy to curse yourself when you’ve lost. There is disappointment, of course, but we must not keep that feeling in our minds otherwise it will be difficult to come back but the team believes we can fight back. It was a thrilling Test match and full credit must go to England for the way they fought back, came from behind and took the game away from us. There was wonderful cricket played by both teams. Sometimes luck doesn’t favour you, sometimes the opposition plays well – that’s the beauty of the game.”He praised Azhar Ali’s decision to bat first upon winning the toss, singling out Shan Masood for particular acclaim. “Shan should be given a lot of credit for his innings. He has been working so hard – with coaches Shahid Aslam and now Younis Khan – ever since I took the coaching job last September. He’s changed a few things in his basic set-up and his approach to batting in South Africa and then Australia. He’s a different batsman now and Younis has helped him too.”The decision to go with Shadab Khan at No. 7 raised eyebrows, particularly with Fawad Alam deemed to be the favourite to start given Haris Sohail’s withdrawal from the squad in June. But both Misbah and Ali defended the selection of Khan during the game, insisting he provided a balance to the side it had been lacking for a while.Shadab Khan appeals for a wicket•AFP
It was an argument somewhat undermined by Khan going on to bowl just 11.3 overs all match; it wasn’t until after the 50th that he was introduced in either innings, serving more as a back-up spinner than the genuine second spin option many might have expected when he lined up in the starting eleven. He did, however, score 45 in a crucial 105-run partnership alongside Masood in the first innings, steering the Pakistan innings back on course when it looked like it might be imploding. Misbah acknowledged some of the attention around his inclusion and his subsequent use as a bowler, without divulging much useful detail.”There has been debate about whether we could have bowled more short stuff or we could have bowled Shadab Khan earlier. Maybe so, but you also have to remember that Woakes and Buttler did have quite a lot of luck in that partnership. A lot of balls went here and there, into no man’s land. If one of those goes to a fielder then the situation could have been very different. We still need to improve, of course, but overall we fought really well against a top team in our first international fixture for six months.”After securing a 107-run first innings lead, Pakistan stumbled to 137 for 8 after tea on the third day, several soft dismissals contributing to Pakistan’s inability to kill off the game there and then. It meant England were set 277 to chase, which might have been a stiff target, but wasn’t the insurmountable one Pakistan would have been hoping for given the way the Test had panned out until then. However, only once had a higher fourth innings target ever been successfully chased at Old Trafford, and Pakistan had only ever lost four Tests having set a target higher than the 277 they set England for victory. The last of them came in the previous century, when an Adam Gilchrist-led counterattack saw Australia hunt down 369 to deny Pakistan a famous win in Hobart in 1999.Misbah promised his team would do their best to mount a fightback, thanking the fans for their support. “This is an unusual tour, of course, but we are feeling very happy and comfortable in the ‘bubble’. We are spending a lot of time together, which has allowed the group to bond well. My message to the fans is that you have given us excellent support from back home so far and we thank you for that. Please keep supporting Pakistan and we will do our best to come back in this series, which I really believe this team is capable of doing.”
Celtic are now readying an offer to sign a “stunning” player in a permanent Parkhead transfer.
Celtic transfer rumours
The Hoops and Brendan Rodgers are in for a busy end to the season on the pitch, looking to lift both the Scottish Premiership title and win the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park, both ahead of rivals Rangers.
However, away from the pitch, preparations appear to be underway ahead of the summer transfer window, with Celtic looking to complete a number of signings.
According to reports earlier this year, Celtic Park chiefs want to at last sign a new goalkeeper, winger and striker, with a replacement for the retiring Joe Hart at the top of the agenda.
Celtic planning to accept offer for "tremendous" ace Rodgers doesn't want
His time with the Scottish giants could be rapidly drawing to a close.
ByBen Browning May 8, 2024
Rodgers has also previously admitted that the club could be “braver” with their additions: “I would go with supporters thinking we could maybe be a little bit braver in terms of bringing in another level of player.
"But that’s up to me to try and fix that over the course of my time here. You look at the strategy here and you have to be careful because in some ways it has worked. You bring in players for a minimal fee and then they go out and make the club a lot of money.
“What I want to hopefully balance in my time here is that we can still do that, because it is an important part of the modern game. But we also want to be brave enough to hang our hat on a ready-made player.”
One player who appears to be a permanent target is current loanee Adam Idah, with the striker set to return to Norwich City at the end of the current campaign.
However, the Republic of Ireland international is thought to be open to making his stay at Celtic a permanent one, and it looks as if the Hoops feel the same.
Adam Idah to Celtic transfer update
According to Football Insider in the last 48 hours, Celtic are now ready to submit a permanent bid for Idah, with the Canaries valuing the striker at £5m.
The report doesn’t say if the Hoops are willing to match that price tag, but it appears as if Norwich will receive an official offer from Celtic for the forward.
Adam Idah
The 23-year-old, on £23,000-a-week at Carrow Road, was called "absolutely stunning” by Chris Sutton following a goal against Motherwell, and in total, Idah has scored seven times and provided two assists in 15 Celtic appearances.
Should a permanent deal go through, it will be one that may delight Rodgers, who hailed the forward back in February.
The squad linked up from around the country for the first time since March
Andrew McGlashan23-Aug-2020The Australia squad linked up from around the country for the first time since March and flew out of Perth on Sunday, bound for England, to follow West Indies, Ireland and Pakistan as countries to resume international tours in the “new normal” of the Covid-19 era.As with the other series to take place in England over the last couple of months the negotiations to make it happen have gone to the top level of governments on both sides of the world with the final sign-off for Australia coming just a couple of weeks ago.Preparation for the players has differed significantly between states, through a combination of climate and Covid-19 restrictions, ranging from those in Queensland and Western Australia being able to have centre-wicket practice to almost full lockdown in Victoria. The New South Wales-based contingent have been training in their own group for several weeks and were told to avoid public places such as cafes and restaurants with Covid-19 numbers bubbling along in the state. In Victoria, where Melbourne has been under stage-four restrictions for three weeks, captain Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell have been almost fully home-bound – not even allowed to visit supermarkets – except for training under very strict guidelines at the Junction Oval away from state team-mates.Australia’s Sydney contingent aboard their flight to Perth, ahead of leaving for the UK•Adam ZampaSteven Smith gave an insight into the level of precautions being taken with an Instagram post showing him in mask and gloves as he made his way to the airport where he then did a social-distanced interview with the media who were told to stay three metres away. The atmosphere of the tour will be far removed from when Smith was last in the UK for the World Cup and Ashes a year ago.”I’m looking forward to getting back into it, obviously it’s going to be a bit different than what we’re used to being in a bubble and playing with no crowds,” Smith told reporters at Sydney airport. “That presents a challenge in itself, but one we’re looking forward to. I do like batting there, unfortunately there’s going to be no crowd there to egg me on and give me a bit more motivation.”For some of the players who enter the biosecure bubble it could be a way of life for the rest of the year; 12 of the squad will head to the UAE for the IPL after the England series, while the remainder of the party who return back to Australia will be required to quarantine for two weeks in Perth.
“I’ve been very strong with the guys in the last couple of weeks about making sure that we do literally everything we can with regards to the protocols to keep the global game going. Because at the end of the day, if that fails then we are all out of jobs and the game is not in a healthy state.”Aaron Finch
The IPL-based players who also play international cricket are then likely to return straight into another bubble for the start of the home season involving India and maybe Afghanistan, while even those playing domestic cricket – the structure of which is still to be confirmed – are increasingly likely to have to enter hubs to enable the season to take place. In the week leading up to the tour, the tone has been that every effort must continue to be made to keep international cricket going.”I’ve been very strong with the guys in the last couple of weeks about making sure that we do literally everything we can with regards to the protocols to keep the global game going,” Finch said. “Because at the end of the day, if that fails then we are all out of jobs and the game is not in a healthy state, which we can’t afford to have.”The England series itself is a brief affair with three T20Is followed by three ODIs, a trip that would normally be low-key by the standards of England-Australia tussles but, as with any sport taking place at the moment, now has huge significance attached. From the ECB’s side it means they will have been able to complete their full men’s international summer; CA will be hoping they can pull off the same feat later in the year.On the field, Australia will be aiming to continue their strong T20I form, which has seen them win nine of their last 11 matches – although there is now no T20 World Cup to aim for this year – while in ODI cricket they will be looking to atone for last year’s World Cup semi-final defeat and find the missing ingredients to their 50-over form.Three players could make their international debuts – wicketkeeper batsman Josh Philippe, fast bowler Riley Meredith and left-arm quick Daniel Sams, who have all earned selection largely on the back of their Big Bash returns. Their first taste of the Australia set-up will be something few could have imagined six months ago.
Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea have verbally agreed another signing amid their talks for Jhon Duran, with the player's agent set to travel and fix the final details of their deal in a "here we go" update.
Duran wants to join Chelsea with transfer talks ongoing
In the past 24/48 hours, a flurry of reports shared that Chelsea are advancing in talks to sign Duran from Aston Villa, as new manager Enzo Maresca seeks to bolster his forward line.

The Colombia international scored eight goals across 37 appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery's side last term, displaying some promise, but he isn't exactly the talismanic centre-forward which Chelsea have been crying out for.
Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, if they do seal a deal for Duran, will be taking a slight risk with the South American starlet – who is arguably a step-down from world-class previous transfer targets.

Chelsea were heavily involved in the race for Victor Osimhen, but it appears the £113 million release clause in his contract wasn't a price worth paying for chairman Todd Boehly. Chelsea also missed out on a deal for RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko, who put pen to paper on a new and improved contract at his current club instead of vying for the Premier League.
Sesko had an offer from Chelsea to join them, but following their failed attempt to prise the Slovenia international away, 20-year-old Duran has emerged as the most concrete striking option with talks ongoing over a deal.
Jhon Duran celebrates for Aston Villa
Chelsea's policy of signing raw, exciting talents is showing no sign of slowing down – having brought in a host of players under the age of 23 since Boehly's takeover in 2022.
Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea from Palmeiras in the last few weeks as well, while reports have also centered around a move for Sport Recife's Pedro Lima. Chelsea have reportedly beat the likes of Tottenham and Atletico to the signing of Lima, with the 17-year-old soon to turn 18 and eligible to make the move to west London.
Now, Romano has shared his own update on Lima as Chelsea definitively seal a deal for him.
Chelsea verbally agree Lima deal with details being finalised
According to the reliable transfer journalist, now giving his famous "here we go", Chelsea have verbally agreed a deal for Lima and his agent is set to travel over fixing the final details.
"Chelsea verbally agree to sign Brazilian 2006 born right back Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, here we go," wrote Romano this week.
"Key detail: the deal will be done via BlueCo side Strasbourg. €7m fixed fee, €3.5m add-ons and player’s agent set to travel for final details."
The teenager has made 26 senior appearances in all competitions for Recife, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He can also operate as a right-winger, meaning he could prove a versatile asset in the years to come.
