MCFC fans love Haaland’s agent’s quotes

A number of Manchester City fans are delighted with comments from Mino Raiola, who is the agent of summer transfer target Erling Haaland.

The Citizens have been heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old dynamo (The Sun), who continues to set the world alight at Borussia Dortmund. Incredibly, in 56 games for Die Schwarzgelben, he has managed to find the back of the net on 53 occasions (Transfermarkt), while he has netted 20 goals in just 16 matches in the Champions League throughout his fledgling career.

With City losing Sergio Aguero this summer (Manchester Evening News), they need another striker, and £99m-valued Haaland (Transfermarkt) fits the bill. Unfortunately, Pep Guardiola has previously had problems with Raiola in regards to Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Goal.com), but it seems that the agent is ready to forget the past and has revealed that he has no problem with the former Barcelona manager.

Raiola told Diario AS [via Sport Witness]: “Guardiola is a great coach. I don’t hate anyone, I don’t find him unpleasant. I don’t know him in person. I didn’t like what he did with Zlatan, but this is the past…”

These comments were shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and they attracted plenty of attention from City supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

ExWHUemployee makes exciting injury claim

Writing on Twitter, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has dropped an exciting West Ham injury update involving mainstay Michail Antonio and he says that the forward could be back ‘sooner than anticipated’.

Antonio has very much impressed at times for West Ham this season and the club rewarded him with a bumper new deal as a result.

ExWHUemployee drops exciting injury update

However, the Englishman has also endured his fair share of injury issues over 2020/2021, missing a total of 13 matches so far under manager David Moyes (Transfermarkt).

When the 31-year-old does feature, he is statistically one of West Ham’s most threatening players – averaging 2.4 shots on goal per 90 this season whilst scoring seven goals and assisting five others (WhoScored).

ExWHUemployee, dropping an exciting claim, believes he could be back ‘much sooner than anticipated’.

“He is way ahead of schedule,” explained the insider (Twitter).

“Could be available much sooner than anticipated. Same as Rice”.

Transfer Tavern take

As Moyes aims to guide West Ham to unprecedented Champions League qualification this season, getting Antonio back before the end of the campaign alongside Declan Rice could come as a major boost – he is the Scot’s only recognised striker.

Revered as a ‘frightening’ player earlier this season by Harry Redknapp on Sky Sports (via The Boot Room), West Ham fans will be hoping he can return to that form if he does make it back from the treatment table.

His presence alongside other returning first teamers may be the difference between European qualification and just falling at the final hurdle.

Is this Celtic’s new Kieran Tierney?

The ability to be versatile and change position is becoming more of a regular commodity in football and that can certainly be applied to Celtic.

Just look at Hoops midfielder David Turnbull. The 21-year-old can play on the wing or through the middle as a playmaker.

Assess Ryan Christie too, another player to feature in central and wide positions. That being said, not many can play in defence and as a striker.

That’s the intriguing dynamic that sets a certain Adam Montgomery apart from the rest.

Once a centre-forward, the 18-year-old has transitioned into becoming a left-back courtesy of work at Lennoxtown with Darren O’Dea.

He has gone from being a self-professed “tricky” winger to someone who now has to withstand the relentless attacks of players who possess similar qualities.

Montgomery has had to learn a completely new trade but it’s clearly been game-changing in terms of his development.

With Odsonne Edouard the leading light in Celtic’s side, very rarely does he get usurped as their main striker. Behind him this season he has had Leigh Griffiths, Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala all scrambling for game time.

With that in mind, a first-team breakthrough for players like Cameron Harper and Armstrong Oko-Flex seemed farfetched. Harper has already left while the latter nearly joined Huddersfield in January, events that summed up what they thought about their prospects in Glasgow.

Montgomery, however, has been patient and willing to adapt. Now a defender, he appeared in a matchday squad at senior level for the first time when Celtic beat Aberdeen in February.

The teenager has never played a minute for the first-team but he has now appeared among the substitutes on three occasions.

Considering his position change, he clearly has a lot of work to do before he makes it in men’s football. That being said, with the guidance and influence Montgomery has at his disposal, he’s set for a bright future.

There is a lot to like about the youngster, a player who judging by his attacking qualities, could be the club’s new Kieran Tierney.

The Scotland international departed for £25m in the summer of 2019 and Celtic will be regularly scanning their academy to find a suitable replacement.

In Montgomery, they have a very capable one. He is not first-team ready yet but he could be next season.

Speaking to the club’s official media channels, he revealed that Tierney has been a vision for where he wants to be: “100 percent. Him being here from a young age, breaking into the team as a full-back and now you look at him doing so well at Arsenal, he’s a player that I’ve really looked up to since I made that move to full-back myself.”

Having also sought council from Greg Taylor, Montgomery is doing all the right things to develop his game and become one of your typical modern-day full-backs. Advice from John Kennedy should also help too.

He was a major figure for Tierney when he first came through the ranks at Paradise.

Combine those elements with Diego Laxalt’s horror show against Rangers on Sunday and bringing through another left-back is certainly a good idea.

Montgomery is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Morrison worth the risk for Wednesday

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Darren Moore has nothing to lose by signing Ravel Morrison, with The Examiner reporting that the Owls boss has refused to rule out a future move.

The 28-year-old is currently a free agent and had been training with Moore’s side as he looks for a new club following his release from Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag.

It is not the first time Morrison has been released by his team, with Wednesday’s rivals Sheffield United having done the same thing prior. The attacking midfielder also left West Ham in similar fashion back in 2015 after a spell in east London that had some very difficult moments, something his former manager Sam Allardyce spoke about last year.

Nevertheless, Palmer can understand Moore’s decision to take a look at the player and feels signing him could be worth the gamble.

“Darren’s in a difficult situation,” the ex-Wednesday player told FFC. “He’s out of contract, he’s a talented player, Darren took over the situation knowing that the transfer window had gone, knowing that he wasn’t able to bring in any players, so maybe Ravel can help him out from now to the end of the season.”

Palmer concluded by saying:

“Maybe he [Moore] just thinks what’s he got to lose. I’m sure he’s not looking at signing Ravel long-term, but what’s he got to lose short-term from now to the end of the season if he can bring him something different?”

With no transfer window and the predicament 23rd-placed Wednesday are currently in, by no means is it far-fetched for Moore to again consider the possibility of adding Morrison to his squad.

Bale comments on Tottenham exit fair

Speaking exclusively to Transfer Tavern, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has defended Tottenham forward Gareth Bale after his recent comments about leaving the club at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old joined the north London outfit on a loan deal from Real Madrid in the last summer transfer window, and he has since confirmed that he plans to return to the Santiago Bernabeu once the 2020/21 campaign ends.

These comments, particularly the ones made about getting his fitness back up at White Hart Lane ahead of the Euros, have not gone down well, with Bale’s former Spurs team-mate Jamie O’Hara not impressed with what he has heard.

Discussing the matter on talkSPORT, O’Hara went as far as to say Bale was being disrespectful. Palmer, however, disagrees and has come out to defend the Wales international in an exclusive interview with TT:

“He was always going on loan. He was leaving Real Madrid because he wanted games, as simple as it is. I think what he said has been taken out of context because he’s only gone on loan to Spurs for one season, so what he said is he will be returning back to Real Madrid, which is where his parent club is. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

On the same subject, the ex-England international also added:

“On the basis of what’s happened [this season], I think even Tottenham really wouldn’t be interested in doing a permanent deal on the salary he’s on for another year.”

After this season, Bale will only have one year left on his Real Madrid contract, so the forward’s long-term future does not appear to be at the Bernabeu as things stand.

Sky journalist drops West Ham transfer claim

Writing for Sky Sports, journalist Kaveh Solhekol has shared that West Ham will still do ‘whatever it takes’ to sign Jesse Lingard this summer on a permanent deal, despite the worrying rumours of a possible price hike.

Lingard, who has been a revelation for the Irons since signing on loan with the club in January, has been at the centre of much speculation linking him with a permanent move to east London.

Sky journalist shares promising Jesse Lingard update

His latest dazzling display came away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening, with Lingard playing a major role as the Hammers cemented another victory in the quest to qualify for European football.

The 28-year-old scored a wonderful solo goal and was central in the build up to West Ham’s next two strikes on the night.

In the latest update on a permanent deal for Lingard, Sky journalist Solhekol has shared a promising update that West Ham United ‘will do whatever it takes’ to sign him this summer.

Transfer Tavern take

News that the Hammers are willing to go above and beyond to make this happen is certainly a promising update for supporters.

Reports have indicated that Man United could hike the price for Lingard due to his sensational run of form, but both Irons fans and GSB will be hoping he is still within their reach.

Pundit Ian Wright, speaking to Premier League productions recently (via C&H and HITC), labelled the attacker ‘devastating’ – leaving little wonder why West Ham are keen to tie him down in east London.

Claim dropped on potential NUFC takeover

Michael Chopra has dropped quite a big claim on the potential takeover of Newcastle United by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group.

The former striker at the St. James’ Park faithful was a member of the Bellagraph Nova Group (BNG) who submitted an offer back in 2020 in order to try and buy the North East club after the initial breakdown of the deal between Mike Ashley and the KSA consortium.

However, the bid was reported to be much lower than the original asking price of the chief executive of Sports Direct, and so it collapsed.

Chopra, who was involved in an advisory capacity with the group, has since told FourFourTwo (via The Chronicle) that their £280m offer was ‘genuine’ but got no reply from Ashley’s lawyer, labelling it as ‘strange’.

He also dropped a very enticing claim on the proposed takeover of the Tyneside club by the KSA group, adding: ‘There’s more about the Saudi bid which hasn’t come out yet’.

Does Chopra know something about the NUFC takeover?

Given that Chopra claims that he was ‘aware of’ the Saudis pulling out of their original deal with Ashley weeks before it was made in the public domain, there may well be something that he knows about the prospective bid by the KSA group that is lurking beneath the surface.

Nonetheless, the original deal is far from being able to be revived yet, as the Gulf country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have not yet brought themselves back to the table, and the pending arbitration case between the Magpies and the Premier League needs to be completed in order to settle their legal disputes first.

Lennon can save Celtic career with last-gasp signing

With just hours left in the January transfer window, rumours and speculation continue to fly. Celtic find themselves linked with a number of potential targets to help with damage limitation in what can only be described as a disappointing season.

According to Sheelagh McLaren, Celtic are trying to squeeze in a last-gasp defensive signing today. They are reportedly looking to snap up a centre-back on loan, which would be a smart bit of business from Peter Lawwell and co.

The Hoops have all but handed over their Premiership title to Glasgow rivals Rangers, who top the table with a mammoth 23 point advantage. Celtic’s lacklustre Europa League spell has also put heavy strain on Neil Lennon’s position, which is being called into question. The Scottish giants have found themselves linked to the likes of Rafael Benitez and Frank Lampard as Lennon’s chances of staying at the club look doubtful.

However, if the Irishman was ever going to buy himself some more time at Celtic, it would be today. The Bhoys are in desperate need of some new defensive options and if Lennon can get a deal over the line before the January window shuts, he could stall his impending sacking.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-this-weeks-celtic-transfer-news” title=”Read this week’s Celtic transfer news!”]

Summer loan signing Shane Duffy has been a huge disappointment since moving to Parkhead. Talks have even emerged over his deal being cut short this month. Indeed, should the Brighton man make a shock early exit, Lennon will need recruits.

Christopher Jullien has been victim of ongoing injuries this season, missing out on a total of 29 fixtures due to back and knee problems. The Frenchman also missed three further games due to self-isolation, according to Transfermarkt. This has had a huge impact on Celtic, who have even resorted to fielding youngster Stephen Welsh to fill in during absences.

Should Lennon make a statement by bringing in a new centre-back, he will be showing both the club and the fans that he has intent to right his wrongs from this season. By recruiting personnel Celtic desperately need, the manager could buy himself more time at the club and give himself the best chance of returning to action in 2021/22 and snatching the title back from Rangers with an improved squad.
