Principalmente no ataque.

After New South Wales wrapped up the right to host the final early on Friday with their win over the Warriors, all the attention turned to the MCG, where the Bulls had to secure victory to jump ahead of Western Australia and into the final. But Queensland were unable to run through Victoria in their second innings as Quiney and Marcus Stoinis (74) put on 148 for the second wicket before David Hussey joined Quiney for an unbeaten 54-run stand. Play was eventually called off with the Bushrangers sitting at 2 for 314, by which time they had a 41-run lead and Queensland had no hope of pulling off the miracle they required.Quiney finished unbeaten on 143, which was his only century for the Sheffield Shield season. The drawn match meant Queensland ended the season in fourth position on the points table, while Victoria were last, having recorded only one win.

Luke Wright and Craig Cachopa gave Auckland a victory in their first match of the HRV Cup, against Wellington. Chasing 158, Auckland won with only one ball to spare despite having six wickets in hand. They were off to a shaky start by losing openers Jeet Raval and Martin Guptill to Brent Arnel within the first five overs. Wright and Cachopa put them back on track from there with a partnership of 76 in under ten overs. Wright scored 56 with the help of three fours and as many sixes as the duo took the score past 100. But Arnel struck again and sent Wright back in the 14th over.Auckland now needed 52 from 36 and were dented further with the wicket of Gareth Hopkins ten balls later, with 39 still required. Colin de Grandhomme joined Cachopa to take them home with a quickfire 25 off 13, which featured two fours and a six, and Cachopa was unbeaten on 42.Wellington had also lost their openers early when they were put in to bat. Michael Papps and Stephen Murdoch then scored 57 for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed for a 24-ball 35. Franklin also departed soon and Papps registered his fifth T20 fifty, before Luke Woodcock’s cameo of 30 off 15 powered them past 150. However, wickets on the last three balls of the innings, a team hat-trick, meant they finished on 157 for 7.

SA players want CSA, BCCI to sort fixtures soon

South Africa’s players would like to see an “urgent engagement” between their board, CSA, and its Indian counterpart, the BCCI, to resolve fixtures over this summer’s India series. The national team is due to leave for the UAE this Friday but their home tour against India has no confirmed itinerary after the BCCI objected to CSA’s schedule of three Tests, seven ODIs and two Twenty20s.Tony Irish, the South African Cricketer’s Association (SACA) chief executive, told ESPNcricinfo that the BCCI’s leadership structure has been formalised following yesterday’s AGM and the players are hopeful the series can be discussed as a matter of importance. ICC chief executive Dave Richardson also spoke on the issue for the first time when he said they could not intervene in bilateral arrangements.”This is the main tour of the summer and has a massive financial implication on cricket. We are about six weeks away from it and to have it all up in the air is really worrying and frustrating,” Irish said. “The players want to see it sorted out. Until yesterday, CSA did not know who they were dealing with at the BCCI because they had not had their election but now that that is sorted it, they need to do whatever it takes to get the discussion going.”CSA has confirmed it is awaiting the dates of a meeting with the BCCI, although it was earlier mooted that the presidents of the boards would meet at the ICC board meeting on October 16 and 17.Irish, in the meanwhile, met with all the players as part of his usual pre-season get together and said the issue of the India tour came up among many of them. “The players are stakeholders in the game and will be affected by whatever happens,” he said, explaining the impact is two-fold. “It’s not just a financial thing, it’s also about the opportunity to play in in a high-profile Test series and substantial limited-overs competitions.”The South Africa Test team, ranked No. 1 in the world, has not played a match since February. They were due a bumper summer including two Tests against Pakistan and three each against India and Australia in a bid to extend their lead at the top of the rankings. “This is the best Test team we have ever had and it’s a very settled unit. They need to be playing in order to keep that momentum,” Irish said. While seven ODIs were considered overkill, the financial gains would have benefitted South Africa’s smaller grounds. Should the tour be curtailed, which seems a certainty in light of India’s other series against West Indies and New Zealand, South African cricket could lose up to R200 million (US$20 million).Irish and the players are not the only people who want to see the issue sorted out. South Africa’s provincial affiliates are anxious to know who will host matches and even Richardson expressed concern. “The ICC does not like the fact that two of its strongest members are in dispute. Historically, South Africa and India have been the strongest of allies. The game needs both,” he told South Africa’s .But Richardson explained why the ICC cannot intervene in bilateral arrangements. “Constitutionally we are a members’ organisation. The ICC only has as much authority over the members as the members are prepared to give it. The ICC currently does not have the authority to determine the FTP. The FTP schedule was determined by agreement between the full members.”The FTP is a non-binding agreement and should countries not reach consensus over the composition of tours, the ICC requires them to play a minimum of two Tests and three ODIs. It looks increasingly likely that maybe that’s all South Africa will get out of India this summer, although Graeme Smith’s team would obviously like more.

Dawson the difference in Hants win

Liam Dawson’s all-round performance made the difference between Hampshire and Bangladesh A who lost by eight runs at the Ageas Bowl.

Mohammad Isam06-Aug-2013
ScorecardLiam Dawson’s all-round performance made the difference between Hampshire and Bangladesh A who lost by eight runs at the Ageas Bowl. His 97 was pivotal in the 223 runs made by the home side before his left-arm spin put the screws on. The match also saw two 50-plus last wicket stands, though the second one didn’t quite finish the job for Bangladesh. The visitors’ struggled with the bat in their first match on tour, until Robiul Islam and Elias Sunny put on an unbroken 58-run tenth wicket stand which added a bit of drama towards the end.The last 35 balls saw the No. 11 Robiul smack five sixes as he made an unbeaten 19-ball 34. Sunny ended up as top-scorer for Bangladesh A with 45 not out, with seven fours and a six at the end. The pair pushed the game into the last over from which they needed 22 runs, but seamer Josh Davey gave away just three runs off the first four balls, swinging the game back in Hampshire’s favour and keeping it that way. Davey is a Middlesex player who was loaned to Hampshire for this game.Dawson’s 3 for 11 from seven overs stung the Bangladesh A batsmen. Having opened the bowling, he accounted for opener Imrul Kayes’ wicket in the seventh over before he took the wicket of captain Jahurul Islam in his next over.Anamul Haque’s 64-minute vigil ended when he was stumped by Adam Rouse off the medium-pace of Josh Davey in the 20th over, having made just 18 off 50 balls. Mominul Haque was more enterprising than the top three in his 28, but he fell to Hamza Riazuddin immediately after hitting the pace bowler for two consecutive fours. The chase fell apart when Naeem Islam and Farhad Reza were dismissed before the visitors reached the 100-run mark. Marshall Ayub tried to resurrect the innings through his 39 off 47 balls, and the 42-run eighth wicket stand with Elias Sunny. But Dawson’s return to the bowling attack brought success as he removed Marshall in the 41st over.Earlier, Dawson walked in at 86 for 4 in the 25th over and slowly recovered the Hampshire innings. He added 37 for the fifth wicket with Davey, but it was his 54-run last wicket partnership with another debutant Brad Taylor that gave them a 200-plus score.Taylor only faced four deliveries in his 30-minutes at the crease, as Dawson took charge. He blasted three fours and a six off Farhad in a 19-run over before hitting two more fours and a six in the next three overs. He missed a certain century after falling to Mominul’s left-arm spin off the first ball of the 50th over, but the 87-ball innings put Bangladesh A on the backfoot towards the end. Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain and Farhad took two wickets each while Robiul Islam, Sunny and Mominul chipped in with one each.Bangladesh A’s next match is against Yorkshire in Leeds on August 9.

Clive Rose signs with Tasmania

Clive Rose, the left-arm spinner who made his first-class debut for Victoria in February, has joined Tasmania on a one-year contract

Brydon Coverdale19-Apr-2013Clive Rose, the left-arm spinner who made his first-class debut for Victoria in February, has joined Tasmania on a one-year contract. The Tigers have confirmed their full squad for the 2013-14 season and Rose is the only addition from interstate, while the rookies Jordan Silk and Harry Allanby have been upgraded to full contracts.Tasmania had already confirmed that the offspinner Jason Krejza and the allrounder Matt Johnston would not be signed up for next season, while Ricky Ponting was not given a deal at his own request. After being part of the state’s Sheffield Shield triumph last month, Ponting told Tasmania he was keen to play on next summer but asked them not to contract him at this stage in case he was to change his mind during the off-season.Rose, 23, is an impressive bowler but has had scant opportunities for the Bushrangers and his appearances next summer were likely to be even more limited, with the legspinner Fawad Ahmed having joined Jon Holland as the state’s two main spinners. The axing of Krejza means the Tigers have three specialist slow bowlers in their squad and all three bowl left-arm orthodox: Rose, Allanby and Xavier Doherty.”It was something we certainly thought about before we went ahead with it but I guess we felt Clive was the next best available spinner,” the new Tasmania coach Daniel Marsh told the . “We see it as really good, healthy competition, for Harry Allanby in particular. Obviously [Doherty] is our main man and we hope he plays for Australia for as long as he possibly can.”The Tigers have also added three new rookies to their list: Gabe Bell, a 17-year-old fast bowler; batsman Sean Willis, 18; and the 19-year-old fast bowler Ryan Lees, who grew up on Flinders Island.Tasmania squad Harry Allanby, George Bailey (Cricket Australia contract), Jackson Bird, Aiden Blizzard, Luke Butterworth, Steve Cazzulino, Mark Cosgrove, Ed Cowan (CA), Xavier Doherty (CA), Alex Doolan, Ben Dunk, James Faulkner (CA), Andrew Fekete, Evan Gulbis, Ben Hilfenhaus (CA), Ben Laughlin, Adam Maher, Tim Paine, Clive Rose, Jordan Silk, Timm van der Gugten, Jonathan Wells. Rookies Gabe Bell, Ryan Lees, Sam Rainbird, Beau Webster, Sean Willis.

Narine spins Trinidad & Tobago to victory

Sunil Narine’s ten-wicket haul helped Trinidad & Tobago beat Guyana by 45 runs in Port of Spain. Narine, left out of the squad for the Zimbabwe Tests, took 6 for 38 in the first innings and followed it up with 4 for 105 in the second as Guyana were dismissed for 330 in pursuit of 376 despite a century from Shivnarine Chanderpaul.Chanderpaul, playing for the first time in a first-class match with his son Tagenarine, brought Guyana close to victory with his 65th first-class hundred. Resuming on the final day from an overnight score of 54 for 1, Guyana floundered after Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed for 29 and Devendra Bishoo retired hurt on 17. Ramnaresh Sarwan and No. 10 batsman Paul Wintz provided some support to Chanderpaul but the T&T bowlers had the measure of the chase.Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago put up a strong batting show scoring 319 in the first innings after being asked to bat. In reply, the Guyana innings crumbled against Narine’s offspin. Leon Johnson scored 87, one of only three batsmen to score in double figures as Guyana were bowled out for 195.T&T stretched their lead of 124 runs to 375, declaring their second innings at 251 for 2. Adrian Barath, Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard struck fifties as T&T set Guyana a daunting target with a little over a day’s play left in the match.
ScorecardOffspinner Ryan Austin and wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton starred in Combined Campuses and Colleges’ 152-run win over Leeward Islands in Bridgetown on Saturday. Walton scored an unbeaten hundred to help CCC amass 367 runs in the second innings, while Austin took six wickets in the Leewards second innings.CCC played poorly in the first innings after being put in to bat. Gavin Tonge and Larry Joseph led the Leewards bowling, taking three wickets each as CCC folded for 180. Leewards, however, failed to capitalise on the advantage, scoring 243 to gain a slender 50-run lead.CCC made a strong comeback with an improved batting display in the second innings. Walton led the way, scoring 101, and received strong support from Raymon Riefer (85) and Anthony Alleyne (71) as CCC declared their innings at 367 for 6.Ryan Austin then proceeded to spin out the Leewards batsmen, trapping Kieran Powell lbw and dismissing captain Sylvester Joseph and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas, before rolling the lower order cheaply. Austin finished with figures of 6 for 48 in 22 overs, as Leewards folded for 152.
ScorecardLeft-arm spinner Nikita Miller took seven wickets in the second innings to dismiss Windward Islands for 83 and send them crashing to a 91-run defeat against Jamaica in Grenada. The match was dominated by spinners with Miller taking nine and Windwards offspinner Shane Shillingford and Jamaica legspinner Odean Brown picking up eight each.Jamaica, who chose to bat, were 66 for 6 at one stage before fifties from David Bernard and Miller lifted them to 207. It was to be the highest total in the match. Windwards’ first innings took the opposite direction. Devon Smith and Johnson Charles put on 59 at the top of the order before the latter was bowled by Tamar Lambert. Only one of the remaining batsmen reached double figures as Windwards crumbled to be dismissed for 130, with Brown picking up 5 for 31.Jamaica had their first-innings lead of 77 to thank as they were shot out for 97 in their second innings. Chris Gayle made 15 and 0, falling to left-arm fast bowler Delorn Johnson both times. Shillingford picked up four more to add to his four from the first innings, while Darren Sammy had 4 for 20 from 10 overs. There was another rearguard from Jamaica, with No. 10 Brown making 27 to turn 68 for 8 into something much closer to 100.Windwards lasted 36 overs on the third morning in their chase of 175, falling apart against the spin combine of Miller and Brown. Miller had figures of 18-6-30-7, giving him his 12th five-wicket haul in his 49th first-class game.
